Hmmm, I'd say if it's that similar, go with the better working environment. Either way, you'd be working for a good company, but the local dealer may be significantly different. Also you can make a decision who offers the better benefit package. Not so much based on salary, but how much are your medical deductions, who has the medical plan you prefer, do they offer Profit Sharing? Employee stock purchase plan? Those items are very important when making that kind of decision.

WAHT? Dood, it worky like this:

Lexus = is300

Honda = S2000

That, and if you own a Honda, you get HUGE discounts on parts. Forget all that other crap :lol:

i'd personally go with lexus if they were dead even, but honda would be a great option too. I say lexus because I wish i drove one and affiliation with toyota=potential for new supra interactions. i dunno, but if you're really split in the middle go with the best job security or flip a coin.

ps, dont forget discount on honda parts. good deals abound.

what position? sales, service, office, detailing...

lexus sales are a cake walk.... people walk in there have the cash and basically treat it like they're shopping at a grocery store.. honda buyers will be more fickle

I've worked in various Toyota dealerships for over a year now... and if it's one thing I've come to realize is, there are only two types of dealership customers... the idiots, and the picky ones... the idiots don't know any better. They have absolutely no clue where else the would go for service... the picky ones think that because they come to the dealership for service, their car should leave in 'like new' condition every time it comes in for work.
Only difference between a picky lexus customer and a picky honda customer... one pays more than the other.

I'm leaning more towards lexus though, because I've had more extensive Toyota/Lexus training, so I'm already familiar with the product...

a guy that worked with me at BB is workin for lexus as a technician. bout 80% of the lexus cars are basically simple corolla type jobs for the most part... pretty simple to work on, but like u said, they just pay more for the name.

i would work for honda for the discounts. however, if they are offering you a company vehicle, base your decision on what car they give you.

edit: some new insight that came to me as i woke up... what position will you be working? if you're a salesperson, work for lexus as your commission pay will be higher.... but more hondas are sold than lexii, so you'll have to judge based on your location and the financial status of the people in that area. however, if it's working in the parts department, then either would be fine. if you are working the service department, i would say work for honda, as u get to work on hondas. but chances are you're not doing service, as it requires SAE and official honda technician training.

the people at Lexus are generally more respectful than any other dealership you'll ever find.

I'd say work at Honda. What type of city you working in(Population wise)? Whats the turnover rates at both dealerships? I'd honestly say for being a tech it would be easier working at honda rather than lexus just because I rarely hear or see people bitching about their lexus breaking down or f**king up. I have talked to some techs that worked at lexus and said it sucked that they would be getting your bullshit oil change and etc and not getting the full advantage of flat rate. Honda is also easier to work own too, In my mind. I'd say go work for Ford or GM but they won't be in business much longer :D

agreed. but you dont get paid more by how expensive the car is. i work for bmw and plenty of techs have left to go to toyota. just depends on the work available. at the honda dealer you may find more customer pay work which should pay more. where as at the lexus dealer it might just be all warranty work cause the folks can afford to trade in the car as soon as its out of warranty.such as the case at my dealership. all warranty and the customer pay goes out to the independents cause no one wants to pay our labor rate. just my 2 cents

Both places are in Dallas, Tx... the Honda dealership is in a very busy part of town, and the lexus dealership is in a very RICH and busy part of town... neither places have a shortage of business.
Not sure what the labor charge to the customer is at Honda (probably around $70-$75 per hour) but at the Lexus dealership, it's $125per labor hour.
From what I hear, a lot of lexus business is for regular scheduled maintenance, and also picky customer problems, like rattles and vibrations and stuff.... and diagnosing problems pays decent.... not too sure about the warrenty jobs though, or what kind of volume they get on that.

That's exactly what I would be doing... but every dealership requires some kind of specialty training... I've been working for Toyota... I've been to all the Toyota training classes, and am Toyota Mastered.... Well, that doesn't count for Lexus, so I'd have to go to Lexus training classes and get Lexus mastered... same would be the case for Honda........... but the bottom line for all of them is, it's all basically the same stuff... some have more goodies than others, but there are not too many different ways you can build a car... once you understand the way the basic systems for all of them work, moving between brands is not that hard.
I'm NATEF trained, ASE certified, and Toyota certified... a few more certifications never hurt ;)
