Mustang Build Thread - Updated, pictures

Edit (constantly) - Tons of updates, keep reading.

Edit (9-19) - Major update, tons of pics on page 2

Edit (9-26) - Small update, kick ass pictures of new motor, page 3

So i stopped by to see whats going on with my car. Got some new pics with the good camera. Nothing amazing has happened recently, but i was able to get some good pics. Some show the tubular suspension and coil-overs nicely as well. Going back later this week to drop off some more money, so i should have a few more pics then as well.

Exhaust side is half done. The piping from the manifolds to the turbo is done. The turbo is mounted in it's final position. Downpipe is in and the rest of the exhaust is ready to be mocked up, probably in the next week or two. Wastegate should be going in soon as well.

I'm torn on a few things right now though. Robert (the guy building the kit) wants to do a black wrinkle finish on all the intercooler and intake piping. I kind of see how it would be cool, but i'm still leaning for a satin aluminum finish. The wrinkle finish is too rough for me. It looks like a rattle can paint job over a s**t sand cast pipe. A satin black powdercoat or anodize is a maybe at this point. Going to have to figure out what to do about the valve covers now too. They are bare aluminum. Do i get those coated/anodized as well?

Started talking about the intake today as well. Worried it might crack or lift under boost. It's a bit of a problem. I don't really want to spend the $1500-$2000 on a new intake, but i might end up having to at some point anyway. Also, any aftermarket intake will move the throttle body, which means the intake piping into the throttle body would need to be changed.

One last thing that i'm a little unhappy with. Tuner is hell bent on going with a draw through mass air meter, which means i need to run a bypass valve. My dreams of a loud ass blow off valve venting to atmosphere are now completely dead. :cussing:

That is absolutely nuts. Another thing that is absolutely nuts is the fact that i've watched this buildup for over five years.

Haha. I could probably fit the larger GT42R (74.7mm vs my 70.3mm), but it would be way overkill.
Anything larger and you'd have to start cutting or removing s**t to get it to fit. You also have to take into account i'm keeping the AC, power steering, and all smog equipment (minus EGR).

That is absolutely nuts. Another thing that is absolutely nuts is the fact that i've watched this buildup for over five years.
 I can't believe i've been planning and working on going turbo for so damn long now. I'm excited that it's finally going to be done and done right.

Here's a few of the turbo off the car. I'll have to get a few more of the turbine inlet piping where it meets at the flange. He did a pretty damn good job with it. Are you looking for any pictures in particular?

I'd let the Tuner know that he's not the one paying the parts, if he's hell bent on the draw through mass air, then he can pay for it. He's supposed to tune what YOU have, not what HE wants on YOUR car. :what:

Looking good so far though bro. I've decided to go 460 Turbo, when I have the money

Oh, i completely understand that, but i'm going to defer to his opinion when it comes to the tuning or tune related hardware. While some people swear by a blow-through setup, some really think draw-through is the way to go. He's part of the latter.

I'd rather have draw-through with a bypass valve and have a safer and more driveable tune than a kick ass blow off valve that drives like s**t.

If i find a good tuner later on that knows how to tune for a blow-through setup i'll switch it up, but for now, the guy i've got is supposed to one of the best in Phoenix.

my god that turbo is BIG!..
That's exactly what i thought when i first saw it. I had no clue how he was going to fit that thing in the car. I can't believe he managed to get it to fit with the 4" downpipe and still manage to keep all the accessories.

Which is weird too. It looks a bit bigger than the turbonetics 72 or 76mm turbos, but really isn't.

I'm starting to wonder if i'll ever be able to spool the damn thing
