ALL NTSC U/C 60 GB Models have the Emotion Engine and Graphic synthesizer chipset in them that the ps2 has.

The last 80GB with PS2 Backwards Comp. is MGS4 80GB Bundle. so if it didn't have motorstorm or mgs4 on the cover with your system it doesn't have it.

the new 80 and 160GB are just 40GB PS3 hardware except with bigger harddrives

i completely forgot about the SACD, i've only played one on my ps3, i've never seen anyone with any lol

i don't understand why they did that. imo, backwards compatibility was always a big deal for both the PS2 and the PS3.

i'm so glad i have this version of the PS3... i'd be super pissed if i couldn't play PS2 games, since there are still PS2 games coming out that i want, and older ones i love to replay, as well as ones i haven't played that i'd like to.

silly sony.

cut costs, every system sold is still a loss to sony. So why not take out unnecessary things.

Yeah its stupid, if you don't already have a 20/60GB or early 80GB haha...

I don't, and I'm sure 90% of the other PS users don't either. Most young people who own a next gen console were barely walking when the PS/PS2/Xbox were popular.

A new survey by consumer research firm Experian has found that PlayStation 3 owners skew the oldest of all three consoles - with appeal at its highest levels to those 44 and older.

The survey found that on a scale that found the Wii easily outranking the other two consoles amongst the 18-24 year olds, but declining steadily as the age range grew higher, Xbox 360 ranked best with 35-44 year olds, with the PS3 showing a marked jump with the next-older group.
imo there's too many ps2 only games still being developed and released to not support it in the ps3

but i guess thats why sony is still making new ps2's

they removed the backwards compat to lower the cost of building a ps3, and also to fuel sales of ps2s

of all the features to cut, the ps2 emulator was just software
i understand going from the hardware to the emulator to save money... but...
they are literally saving only an incredibly small fraction of a cent on each system

since only a small fraction of ps3 users actually use bluray, and the bluray is the reason the console looses money, it would be nice to see them make a non-bluray ps3.... but unfortunately, they made all of their games bluray, and now that's not an option

well, they used to have the full emotion engine... then they cut costs by using software emulation... and now they cut it out entirely to make sure ps2s still get sold.

how much data does a blu-ray disc hold?

upto 50 gigs i think

unfortunately, most ps3 games are still just ported xbox 360 games and they require NOWHERE near that much space and you have to install a portion onto your ps3 hd anyways

i've heard that TDK and some other media storing companies are testing bluray discs that hold 100-300GB that'll still work on the bluray players we have now, and i heard that they're going to make hybrid dvd bluray discs, that'll play on a dvd player by reading off the dvd layer of a bluray disc very soon.

but currently bluray is only using single and dual layer discs that hold 25 and 50GB's

I'm starting to hate that about my playstation. I was expecting a lot of huge scale jaw dropping effects, but 95% of the games are multi-platform and therefore just not as eye-popping as they could be.

Resistance 2 is pretty sweet looking :thumbs up

games actually lose definition when they're ported

if you look at graphical comparisons between the same game on both platforms, the 360 will actually have better graphics if it was originally written for that platform.

but i still keep buying games for the ps3 hoping to find "the one" that changes everything
