Just wondering what I should expect to happen

First off let me say I did plea guilty by mail to the ticket. I am not complaining about it or any of that and I know I was 100% at fault for this.

All I want to know is what may/will happen as a result of the ticket. but I guess I should say what happened in order to give you a better idea of what it is for.

I got out of college late today and I have a job that is 40 miles away from where I go to class. As I was leaving and maybe a mile or so away from college I was doing 63 in a 45 zone. The roads are like the old country ones, paved but no houses or anything for miles. well as I was getting into town which is 10-15 miles from college and slowing down I saw a cop in my rear view mirror flying towards me without its lights on or anything so I thought I was fine and just causally kept driving doing the speed limit and stopped at a stop sign. As soon as I stopped he turned on his lights and I obviously pulled over. He steps out asks me for my license and registration I give it to him then he asks if I knew why I was pulled over and I said yes for speeding, he asked if I knew how fast I was going and I said between 60-65 and he said yeah somewhere in that range. Then he told me he was A state trooper asked if I had any warrants or any prior tickets. I said no as I have never been pulled over before and I was just trying to make it to work on time. He told me to hold on and he would be right back. So he went to his car checked my info and all that good stuff. He comes back and says that he respects the fact that I go to class full time and also work, so he said I'll cut you a deal and I wont give you a ticket for speeding. I said thanks alot sir and then he tells me instead that he is giving me a ticket for unreasonable speed/special hazards. I obviously have no clue what that even means but I assume its better then almost 20 over the limit. He said I wont get any points on my license, or license suspension or any of that but I had to either appear in court or mail back the ticket with my plea of either guilty or not guilty. I said ok and I was on my way.

hire a lawyer to represent you and theyll take care of everthing. then all you have to do its pay off the fine and have no penalties against you. i got a ticket for 70 in a 45 and hired a lawyer and had all charges dropped.

Good job for owning up to your mistake. You'll just get a fine, nothing more.

I assuming you paid a fine when you mailed in your ticket? usually you pay the money, and mail in saying you was guilty... the fine is your punishment...

paying a lawyer to not pay a fine sounds stupid to me... especially if you hire a lawyer and pay the fines.. im not sure what the hell you accomplished there...

your not getting points on your record hiring a lawyer makes no difference.

actually d16racer... you hiring a lawyer has me perplexed like none other... hired a lawyer to pay a fine.. what the hell did the lawyer do then?

yea thats different then here in ohio... usually they give you a ticket then another paper with fine amounts on it.. the state patrol officer circles which fine applies to the ticket and then when you pay it means you know you was guilty. thats all to that.

The last thing you do to a cop is ADMIT that you did something wrong. Have them tell you. I got nabbed on my bike on the gun at 129 in a 45 and kept going in the opposite direction as i passed an oncomming cop. Parked my bike in the garage (I was 2 miles from my house when I met him). About a 1/2 hour later a sherrif came and asked me questions. I said it wasn't me and they had no way to prove it. NEVER admit to a violation

Fines vary state to state, depending on the surcharge fee and the fee for the offense itself. Try looking on the dmv or state website.

NYS is awesome because the surcharge fee is now $85. I went through a stop sign earlier this year and paid a $135 ticket. Yeah. The state surcharge fee was more than the fine for the offense. I love NYS.

You're a f**king moron. I wish you either A. got caught or B. hit something. There's a difference between going 150 on a motorcyle and doing almost 20 over in a car.

There's no reason to get a lawyer for this citation. It's just a simple citation saying that you didn't look/see/follow/abid by the signs around you.

Just plea guilty.

Usually, I'd let stuff like this fly, but I have to comment about it. This is the most stubborn/selfish act anyone can say... The OP was NOT on a bike, and he most likely CANNOT hit speeds of 120+ mph that quickly, just to get away from a cop. If you've read his comment, it'll tell you that he was on a smaller road, and coming up on a stop sign with a cop behind him GOING THE SAME DIRECTION. Sure he may not have got pulled over by the gun, but it's obvious he was speeding. Most of the time, cops are a lot cooler if you just admit to the fact that you were speeding, or if you ran a stop sign, or blah blah blah. Sometimes you'll get a a*****e cop, but most of them time they'll be just as courteous as you are to them.

But, what you say may be true... Some people here would run from a cop, not saying that that wouldn't happen either.

States do vary depending on different fees and what not, but no worries, I don't think you'll be paying too much for this citation; probably somewhere between $150-200.

Man, some idiots on this thread.

OP; you'll be good. A small fee, like toneekay said, in the 150-200 area.

But @ the OP. Since you're not attending court there's no need to pay court cost I don't believe. And normally most average tickets with court cost average between $200-$400. Court costs normally take up about 150-250 and since it was a Trooper the court costs would have been higher. For ex. My 40 in a 30 ticket was $60 but court cost was $150  Just call any court or whatever around you, they'll be able to tell you who to call. You really got off lucky though since nothing's going on your record.
