ok my car once in a while it will die on me on daily driving, on the high way, or just at idle.

sometimes i can start it back up but this time it wouldnt start anymore!

so i did a ignition coil replacement, changed the rotor and cap, had spark plug and wires changed not that long ago.

i can smell fuel so that good, but no spark? i dont know why.

i had the sparkplug connected to the wire and crank it a bit but no spark, tested on wire # 1 and 3.

i also cleaned my iacv.

i do have cel but its only for my o2 sensor.

please help me with ideas need my car running

how's your distributor cap doing?

Take the ICM inside your distributor to an auto parts store and have it tested. It's probably bad.

ok so its defenitly not the ICM because i went to autozone and advance auto and they couldnt test it so i bought a whole new distributor and still no spark. i heard theres a recall on the ignition switch maybe i'll check that out, otherwise any other ideas? it cranks, starter works, but no spark!!!

yes, there is a recall for faulty ignition switches. my car was dying aswell out of nowwhere. while driving and at idel. this would happen randomly.

the only way it seem to say on was if i held the key in the ignition to the on position. if i let go, it would shut off. so then i went and did more research and that's when i found out some Accord, Preludes, and Civics in the late 90's had a recall for faulty ignition switches.

I took it to a Honda Dealer, i told them about the recall, they said yes, your right there is a recall. after that they verified by scanning the vin and told me that they would take care of it at no charge. the ignition switch was replaced at no cost and my car hasn't died ever since.

good luck bud!

so even though my car is a 2000 civic dx and bought it from a private dealer, they'll replace at no charge?

ok, then do that. but how do we know that the person who told you knows or doesn't know about the recall?

If you can hear the fuel pump prime for 2 seconds when the key is turned to ON(II), then the ignition switch is probably fine.

Start by checking whether 15A dash fuse 9 is blown. If so, you would lack spark because the Blk/Yel wire attached to the coil and ICM cannot get battery voltage when the key is turned to ON(II).

im not really concerned about the fuel pump because i can smell it on my sparkplugs but it wouldnt hurt to give it a try, thanks for the fuse number, which one is the main relay/ignition relay #?

If you can hear the fuel pump primes, then the main relay is likely fine, which should focus your attention elsewhere, such as fuse 9 and battery voltage at the dizzy.
