Well everyone, I know i only spend my time in the Off Topic section of this site and have never contributed much except to photography threads and various stupid picture threads but I have always come back to this site even when i didn't own a civic like most of the older people on here. Something about this site has been better than most sites i have visited and it saddens me to know i wont be able to check this site for at least 9 weeks come monday afternoon.

I leave my hometown of all 21 years of my life to go start my new life path in the United States Air Force monday March 14. On March 15 i fly from Boston to Texas to start basic training. I'm going in as open mechanical and still wonder what jobs i should pick out of it when the time comes, although I may look into Special Forces if asked.

So basically this is a temporary good bye and the VIP section better be bumping when i get to check it out for the first time after at least 2 months away haha.

Thanks guys,
-Aaron

You'll love the amenitites the af gets for the most part once you reach tech school/duty station. Being Army and stationed on an AFB for the time being its like heaven. But anyways good luck man, you'll do good. I'd say you picked the best time to come down here to Texas, the weather is beautiful right now. Im just north of San Antonio/Lackland, AFB. Im up at Goodfellow AFB.

253eg, im going in as an open mechanical aptitude area. When i get to basic i'll meet with a job counselor and given a list of jobs i can pick from and then find out the 2nd to last or last week of basic what my job is and where i'll be headed.

Jordan I signed up in September and have been waiting ever since haha. didn't choose to go at this time but the weather should be nicer when i get there.

When I went for basic I went in June-August. It was soooo damn hot in SC. But You shouldn't have to much to deal with weather wise. But one thing I have noticed about the AF is they care alot more about the "Smaller" things than we do. You guys do alot of D&C and stuff like that.

The overall experience wasn't "too bad" imo. Its just the weather was the weirdest thing I've ever experienced. It could be 100+ and sunny all day and outta nowhere in the evenings storms would just blow in like crazy.

Do you happen to know what Battalion he was there?

Just remember NOT to volunteer for anything in basic training. Also take the next 3 days to practice speed shaving.

:word:

And if your like me and don't grow facial hair to fast you can get away with shaving the night before. Either during your personal/personal hygiene time or on your fireguard/firewatch. Itll save you precious time in the morning.
