I just got my civic on saturday and have mastered driving it in 3 days (thanks to some advice from people here on the forums, and the shifting section of the owners manual. I want to know how long it took some of you to learn it. (the advice my bro gave me was to let off the clutch slowly till the car vibrates and give it gas as you let off the clutch from first gear and reverse, when shifting hit 3k rpm let off the gas shift slowly let off the clutch and apply gas as you let off.) It took my mom a week, took my brother 4 days, took my step dad a day and a half. Took me 3 days.
ONly about a day or so. You get the hang of it pretty quickly.

I went n bought a 96 mazda 626 for $500 and drove it home that day. So I would say a matter of minutes. A couple hours to perfect it.

I'm the only one in my family that can drive stick

About an hour or two. I remember stalling once in First gear and once in Reverse and a couple of tries going up hill.

Two days, it could have been one with a 92 Accord then my friend told me to try his 93 Corrado, that's when I realized not all clutches are the same.

I got my civic when I was working an internship an hour and a half away from home, so I learned how to be comfortable with a standard within two days or so. Just go on long rides with a lot of variation in terrain, like hills and dips and stop lights and you'll learn pretty quick

Took me three different days with three different people. The first two guys just complicated things. The last one explained it well. I later taught my younger brother and he learned within an hour.

bought a 00 focus, drove it home an hour away. First car i bought from an used dealer. Driving stick isn't hard it just something that you need to be attentive to. Once you got the feel of the car, and each one is just a little different, shifting is just second nature.

Unfortunately i had a little accident with that car last aug and picked up an auto civic. I say unfortunately because i felt like i just threw 5grand in a wood chipper. Anyway the funniest thing is that it was almost dangerous driving an auto. You spent all that that time conditioning your leg and hand to work the clutch and stick that it just doesn't go away. I spent a week slamming the brake with my left foot and bumping the car in neutral.

A week total between 1994 and 2001.

First time was my dad showed me how to with his 1986 Ford Taurus. Second time my husband showed me with my 91Integra.

Feathering in and out the clutch was the difficult part. Now I just listen to the RPM's to time my shifts.

Thought I'd bump this since I've got some input now.
I'd driven some of my friends car's around parking lots and s**t so I knew all the fundamentals, but I never drove all day/ daily drove a stick until this morning. I went 2 and a half hours to Columbus GA to get a 5 speed del sol, spent about 20 minutes in the parking lot getting a feel for the clutch and then started on home. lol I stalled it ONCE on the exit ramp because I was on an incline and right next to a cop and I didn't want to give it too much gas because I was afraid of spinning tires. Talk about embarrassing. But I've got it pretty good now. I drove for maybe another hour in the day around town, but I've still got to perfect it a little bit. f**k all y'all talkin about "learned in 5 minutes" lol, wish I could have caught on that fast.

I'm still learning. Hoping to go out and practice again soon. I drove to my house and back to girlfriend's house and only stalled it once because I let off the clutch too fast, but I pretty much go the basics down.
