To cam or not to cam?

I currently have an a6 in my 1992 civic. I am about to put a y8 head on it but I am wondering if I should put a stage 2 cam in it or if its worth it. I don't expect a ton of hp or torque, just an upgrade to the a6. The engine will be tuned either way. Yes or no, please give reasons, thanks in advance.

Seeing that you have the right expectations for the upgrade, i don't see why not. If you had some idea of big power or a contradicting future power goal then id advise against the cam install.

Since you are going to have it tuned then you might as well. It might not be a bad idea to talk to your tuner first and see what they think.

Always gotta think about your financial situation. There will always be extra costs when doing something like this, like a tune for example, to get the most out of what you're putting in

Stage 2 need upgraded valvetrain yes. Stage one your fine

It's all in the tune and the upkeep of the car. You can have a built car run just as long as a factory one.

and as far as upgraded valvetrain goes, that's all dependent on the cam specs. Every stage 2 is not equal to one another.

Yes, you need the proper valvetrain to support the cam.

all stage twos areent the same, but if you go with any stage 2 you should still upgrade the valvetrain
stage one you wouldnt have to upgrade it.

I still would though. I wouldn't be too confident in the SOHC valvetrain. But that's just my .02

Are you planning on doing anything with this? Or just throwing a cam in it?

if you want to run a stage 2 cam then the valvetrain needs to be built
if you are willing to with with a stage 1 which is less aggresive then you dont have to do anything else.

I cannot afford to go b series (wife isn't having it), so I figured a mini me (d16a6/y8 head) would be a little extra hp. I chose this setup because the a6 has a good bottom end.

Gah... I hate that s**t. Not being able to afford it is one thing, but someone telling you what to do... Yeah I'll leave that alone.

Why not a boosted D series?
