What parts from a eBay turbo kit will need to be replaced for it to be more reliable on 97 ex 1.6 vtec

I've heard the turbo itself isn't complete dogshit if you maintain it, but the rest of the kit is not very well built at all. Whatever works, I guess. I stopped taking shortcuts with parts after a while
Do yourself a favor: do NOT buy an eBay turbo kit. $600 to boost your car is not sufficient. These kits are manufactured using shoddy materials, overseas, by companies that don't care about their products or the quality. They WILL fail. I had to run a cheap manifold for a while (clearance issues on my original manifold, needed a new one stat), and after less than a month, the wastegate flange fell off, along with my wastegate. I was in full boost at the time. Absolutely ruined my tune/fuel mileage, and I had to do a valve adjustment (mainly, that was just me being anal with my car lol).
On a friend's turbo Del Sol, his shitty eBay knockoff wastegate failed, and he'd get boost creep/spike from 10psi to friggin 25psi. After only two days of driving like that, the turbo was spiking to 22-25psi regularly. Eventually, the turbo gave out (after maybe 2 months). Upon inspection, it had coked horribly bad, the main shaft was horribly loose and wobbly, and the housing itself was starting to warp.
TL;DR: They are s**t. Don't. Just don't.

I'm just saying the 8 months Ive hadn't eBay setup I've had absolutely no issues with it at all. I'd say it's worth it. If my turbo blows ill buy another for a couple hundred bucks and last another 8 months.
Now my eBay clutch on the other hand. A whole different story
Also side note. I am only boosting to 7lbs. I have read higher boost makes the turbos go boom faster.

It comes down to how comfortable you are at risking it, I guess. I don't even buy Junk2 or Blox, but that's just me
Also I'd like add my Honda is NOT my daily. So I'm very content with my budget build

get what you pay for. there is a reason why something like a precision turbo costs basically double what an entire ebay kit costs. hell a good manifold cost as much or more than those kits
I'm a fan of doing it right, one time. Not having to shell out a ton of money every few months to replace a piece of s**t part that I bought to cut corners. Not to mention, when that turbo fails and throws chunks of shrapnel into your engine, you'll wish you hadn't skimped out. Just my $.02.God I hope that happens. Give me a excuse to swap the f for a b
Ok ebay parts. On turbo i suggest buying a used refurbished turbo. Ebay waste gates and bov probably need to be opened up and checked for metal shavings. If you buy a kit look up decent ebay brands emusa isnt that bad. You still need to treat everything nicely and break things in correctly. Also pay attention to if turbo is balanced or not. I know emusa balances there turbos. I honestly think best to piece things together. Hell i paid 1600 for my turbo and 600 something for my manifold.
eBay stuff isn't all bad it's a china hit or miss mass production product. The best part of the kit is!!! The cold side pipes. Lol. Down sides, it's all cheap metal, so cracks and breaks are bound to happen on the hot side. The bov will go after a while, the turbos run but aren't built to make big power.
If you want something to make power with, and have less break downs you have to spend more money.
However my friend has a camaro with a 5.3 truck motor from a junk yard,($500) a self made manifold. eBay turbo, bov, and waste gate. He runs 10'a all day at 24 psi. But it's not a street car, it can be, but it built to go big or blow up in the process. I bring that up because while his parts have been holding up, they really only have a 20-30 miles on them.
You can never go wrong spending big money if you plan to keep the car a few years. A good kit will also resell for a good price down the road.
