Craigslist would probably be your best bet. Not sure what cheap but not too cheap means though, lol.

Craigslist or eBay really. Check junkyards and local listings, etc.

While sadly true, you can sometimes find some gems. I bought a transmission off CL once and I highly regret that one. Since he said a cost between 500-1000, I didn't recommend hmotors online... I checked those prices before posting and they were upwards of $2-3k for the motors

That's because they are quality imported motors with everything you could ever need to simply take the old engine/trans out and put the new in.

OP, cheap usually means half-assed. As XpL0d3r said, CL has some diamonds in the ruff, but if you want a reliable one, get one from a distributor.

Yep. But you still pay way too much for them at places like this, unfortunately. I found my JDM B18B setup for $1110 years ago, on CL. 35k on it; just needed an ECU, a couple brackets, and axles, and I was set.

Exactly. They're even cheaper now. Prices at Hmotors are still super expensive.... Not dissing them, but these cars are 5 years more depreciated and their prices do not reflect that. At least with the CL market - it does. I know this because I just sold my motor this spring, and followed suit with the average prices I found for my area (Buffalo, Rochester, Syracuse, Northern PA).

For comparison: Hmotors is selling a JDM B18B for $2200 + shipping. That includes literally everything, and an estimate on mileage average of ~45k. Mine was $1400 after sourcing the rest of the parts I needed. That $800 I saved went towards a Go-Autoworks turbo kit. ;)

It's because Hmotors is bringing engines and parts in directly from japan. They are adjusting their prices with the YEARLY tax increase on those old items. That's why there aren't many old vehicles on the roads over there. It's retarded expensive in taxes versus just buying a new car. So you can expect every october for prices to go up each year and make the choice of buying an outdated engine less appealing.

Nothing wrong with doing it your way, people like me are willing to pay for the quality, piece of mind, and ease of getting it all together. The cheaper route in all situations is always more involved but the cost is the payoff for the effort

Then you take the chance of some s**t-tard trying to rob you cause you brought 1500 cash to some a random strangers house. I trust no one.

Just gotta be smart.

I bought my GSR block from a dude that I had meet me at an ice cream parlor. Told him I'd give him $20 extra for him to lug it into his truck and meet me there.. people were outside right next to us as we made the trade. When I sold my LS motor, it was at my buddies garage. He was paranoid anyways, and had his shotgun ready in the other room just in case haha.

Small items are not a big deal. You can meet em. Most people are not going to have a means of transporting a motor. Cause it more than likely came from one of there only cars. I dunno. Craigslist has got real bad over the past few years. Nothing but sketchy f**kers looking for a easy buck.

I always carry a pistol anyway, but can't imagine dealing with craigslist without one [emoji38] I've met some sketchy people through there. Made a few friends too though.

Am I the only one reading, "If you want to buy an old used honda engine you should bring a weapon"?
f**k that, I'll call hmotors, get tracking info and confirmation number and relax in my own home.
