hey all, i am new to clubcivic, and would like some tips from the more experienced ones. i got this account right when i got my 2009 civic si coupe. it is completely stock apart from my royal purple oil change, which added a few horses and mpgs. but besides that, i would like to increase my power and gas mileage. i know there has been alot of controversy about if intakes increase gas mileage and such, but i would more than love some help from people who know from experience. if any of you could list some things that increase gas mileage and power, it would be greatly appretiated. thx in advance =)

My suggestion is to either look into a supercharger or a turbocharger. And oil will not give you horsepower.

can't believe everything you hear/see, you'll learn that in the car world.
example: TURBONATOR

i don't have a full intake because it won't do much for what you pay..maybe some noise but it won't really increase the mpg at all..although if you want to make sure that the air coming in in nicely filtered i'd suggest a k&n drop in filter, if you want looks, then a full intake

I just have a drop in K&N in the wife's 09 Civic...let it breathe...engine is like a lung, the easier it can breathe, the less it has to work...

My 99 EX has a CAI on it, it's just loud and probably adds a tiny bit of HP at VTEC to WOT range on the tach

I would go with the K&N drop in, add a header, and get a nice exhaust system to open it up

Then again, she won't let me do anything else to it...yet

Personally i would go with a full intake, but thats just me then a good header and cat back exhaust system.
These are the basic things most people always start with when it comes to modding the car.
It will add next to nothing, but if you dont have to worry about emmisons look into a test pipe or high flow cat.

Welcome! The more air going into and thru the motor, the better. Intake with a good filter, headers, cat back or custom exhaust, larger throttle body, thats where I would start. These mods would give your Honda a richer/deeper sound and might even give you better gas mileage. New tires inflated to the correct pressure also improves gas mileage. Try to stay away from BIG rims. Try to keep the car as empty as possible (less weight means less work for the car) Unless you're thinking of going turbo, I would wait on some of the upgrades I mentioned since turbos usually require crazy kits or parts to run efficiently. I don't think oil increases horse power but a quality oil such as royal purple allows the moving parts of the motor to glide effortlessly with minimal resistance (which in turn improves fuel economy) Also, now that you went synthetic... I would recommend keeping it that way. Have fun and take your time when modding.

for your k20 id say a skunk 2 intake manifold, intake, header and exhaust and a kpro or reflash. good oil will let the engine work better so your not gaining hp just prob restoring what you have lost.

Aparently E3 spark plugs can add up to 5hp and better mpg whether its true or not i dont know but they are only $15 a pair so it's worth a shot
