The back bumper acts like a parachute and causes a real lot of drag. Think about it! If you are really serious about 1/4 mil times then its a good idea to do that, or just take the whole bumper off while you run on the strip.

i have never seen anybody take their rear bumper off for drag racing. this guy i'm talking about filled his in with sheets of aluminum so that wouldnt be his excuse anyways.

I have only seen one person take off the back bumper but i have seen a bunch of cars that had holes in the back bumper"without" aluminum. The kid that you are talking about knows nothing about anything i guess.
