I know this has been debated before, but i just wanted to hear everyone's opinion on getting 12" subs as opposed to 10" subs. I plan on buying two, and what i am concerned about is trunk space. Do 12's fit comfortably in a 5th gen sedan trunk? If anyone has this set up, about how much trunk space do you have left? Thanks.

Sorry i forgot to mention, i have no idea whether ill go with a ported or sealed box. Isn't it more difficult to build a ported box anyways? Also, Run, why 12's and not 10's?

ive got 2 friends, both have the same car and 1 has 2 10" kenwoods and the other has 2 12" kenwoods. the 12"s sound 100% better. i also have other friends with 10s and 12s and all the cars with 12"s sound better than the 10s and their not that much more $$$

go with 2 10s..... if you want more room... also note the PROPER size of the box for each sub. some 12s req. less space then 10s to do their thing properly...

but generally 10s.

go with 10's if you want all sorts of music to play with it, just equalize it the way you want to for different types of music, 12's at least in my oppinion are for some hardcore bass and some rap stuff, all around music id go with 10's

i say 15" subs

no way, 15s are good at creating a sound wave like 6 feet long....sure they sound good in a huge room. Not a car, they aren't practical at all.

Get two 10s, 10s are more accurate and will definately thump in your civic. Just because a sub is 10" instead of 12" doesn't mean it won't thump as loud. Think not? Challenge your 12" Kenwoods against my boys 2 10" JL W7s. If you listen to rock and jazz it won't really matter because you don't neccesarily need the most accurate bass. If you listen to rap or techno definately go with two 10s. I'm ordering two infinity kappa perfect 10s within the next couple of weeks. You won't be disappointed with two 10" if they are good subs and powered correctly...I guarantee that. N put em in a sealed box =)

depends what kind of music you hear

http://www.crutchfieldadvisor.com/S-aD0HTtsyZ81/learningcenter/car/subwoofers_faq.html#1
check out #1-3

since the 12 has a bigger diameter it will take longer to create bass, thats why when I would listen to rave music or anything fast paced on my car, the 12's were not able to keep up and the bass will give you the feelin that the song is slower than what it is, thats when the 10 inch sub is more effective. It all depends on the music you listen to

I beg to differ with verbal. I have two 15s in a sealed box in my 6th gen. They sound good with all sorts of music (techno and rap especially) & the sound quality (they are SQ woofers) is awesome. :D

You get what you want. Don't worry about trunk space... like I said, I have 2 fifteens and the box is only 3 cu.ft. Of course, I have a false floor and everything built around it so I have NO trunk, but if you just plan on putting a box in there, whatever size you want will be just fine.

Don't listen to what people on the internet say, go listen to these woofers yourself & choose the ones you think sound the best. =)

you must not listen to much fast hip hop or electonic, my friend had a single 15" in his hatch and it lagged like s**t:(

I guess the accuracy wouldn't be a problem if it had a magnet the size of delaware.

I dunno, I've had 10s and 12s and I'll swear by 10s. I don't even listen to electronic music, I pretty much only listen to hip hop. My 12s couldn't keep up to the fast bass patterns some of my songs were puttin out.

Go with 10's much clearer no matter what kind of music you listen too!! They are more able to keep up with your music, and with the right set and a good amp you can be just as loud!!

I've never had a problem with them keeping up. But I don't think that I listen to much with a really fast bassline... cuz that's sound bugs me anyways. That's when woofers get to me.. they pound in my chest and I can't stand it loud.

I do listen to techno, though... and with what I do listen to, I've never had a problem.

I listen to alot of fast rock and metal!! Most the bands i listen to have a double bass and on some of the solo's they can hit those pretty fast!! I had a set of 12's and they just couldn't keep up with the constant hits, it sounded like the song slowed down even at times. Now i went to 10's and they keep up with my music and the beats are quicker and clearer. By clearer i mean you can distiguish the gap or time delay between each beat making it sound better. But yet again its all in the music you listen too!!

depends on the music you listen.

for ex. if ur into rap, go with 12s, because they'll move more air and their bass will be deeper and longer.

ported/sealed is another question. again, it depends on the music u hear. ported is good for rap, while sealed is nicer for quickly repeated basses, like techno or.. you know..

i got a single 12. I used to listen to only rock in the car but now with the sub, I like turning up the rap just to feel the bass.
