1993 Civic EX Gear Selector Issue

Hi,

I have a 1993 Honda Civic EX Auto and the gear selector is stiff when shifting from Park through Neutral most times. (Just started this when the weather got hot)

The gear shift is hard to move into reverse and Neutral and I can't figure out why. Shifting from Drive back to Park is stiff too. Going from D4 to D3 and on down is OK.

On some occasions it's not hard to move at all. For example, when it is cold outside I have no issues. When the weather gets hot is starts to stick more and more and I'm afraid that I may break the shift cable one day.

Any thoughts on what might I do to correct this issue? I searched the board but could not find any posts similar to this issue.

Thanks for your help!

Heat causes things to expand which could be causing your problem. You could try applying some graphite lube to any moving parts. Graphite lubricant is a dry lube so you dont have to worry about staining or getting stuff wet.

Other thing is just check the level and condition of your transmission fluid.

Thanks for the response. Do I grease underneath the gear selector or near the transmission. Not where?
