Hello. I am just wanting to introduce myself to the forum. I normally do all of the work to my vehicles with the help of various forums. I am new to Honda, however I have been a long time admirer.
My name is Robert and my poison is the 1993 Honda Civic EX - 5 Speed. I purchased the vehicle just 4 days ago and so far it has been running like a dream. The car is currently sitting at 195k miles, however the engine was just rebuilt (Says the guy that I purchased it from). There was a little bit of smoke coming from the exhaust when I went to look at it and I know from experience that will happen with rebuilt engines (burning the residue around the rings). It has been smoking a lot less than when I initially noticed it, which at the time was not bad at all. I haven't noticed any smoke today, in which I put a good 50 miles on it today alone.
I purchased the vehicle from a guy that posted it on Craigslist, in which he owns a shop in my city (Jacksonville, FL). I was able to get this Civic for $1800, which I believe was a great deal, so far anyways. The seller claimed that he rebuilt the engine with a Mini-me setup (1.5 bottom and 1.6 top). The engine is a B15D7, if I recall correctly (It is about to rain right now and I am too lazy to go take a look at it right this second).
The vehicle rides very smooth. It is definitely a solid car. It is not the prettiest at the moment, but a bit of TLC from me, I will have it looking how I want it to look.
There are some issues with the car such as the driver front fender has a few dents as well as the hood. I believe that I will eventually replace both instead of doing body work in those areas as he metal feels a little soft. Some other issues include the driver window rolling up very slowly. It gets progressively worse the more the window motor is being used to the point in which it will stop completely and I will have to wait a couple of minutes to roll it up the rest of the way. The last issue worth mentioning is that the speedometer needle is stuck under the resting peg, which is an easy fix, possibly time consuming, but I will know shortly.
All in all, I believe that I got a great deal for the vehicle. It has the pep to get up to speeds when I need it and is great... I mean fantastic on gas. I never realized how good VTECs are, but I am sold.
Below you will find a few pictures that I snapped of her. I am planning on getting a fresh coat of Super sonic blue pearl in the near future.
