I'm looking to buy my first car, and my heart's already set on a 1992-2000 Civic hatch, manual. prefer the 6th gen but I'm open to 5th too, not sure if this is necessary info LOL but anyway.

I'm looking at a '96 with 180k miles

Cons are a small dent in the hood and small rust spot above passenger door, and the asking price ($4k)

Pros are it has a Yakima bike rack, which I'd been thinking of getting for my future car anyway. And it looks very clean besides those cons, and is claimed to be regularly maintained.

Also haven't seen the interior, but let's assume it's in good condition; I haven't contacted the seller yet asking for more pics because I'm not sure how much to offer.

The mileage worries me, and I definitely think the asking price is high, which is why I want to know: How much do you guys think it's worth?

My wifes 2000 civic has over 200,000 miles and still runs great. I would suggest some preventative maintenance first.

But the mileage shouldnt be a turnoff imo.

Its an old car. Things are going to go wrong and need replaced. Its a great way to learn how to work on your own car and these civics are super easy to work on!

3k might be around what I'd ask. I picked up two '00 EX Coupes in pristine condition, 5 speed, black, fully loaded, 1 for just under 3k with 178k miles, the other for just over 2 as it had a motor replaced and 183k miles. Hatches seem to fetch a little extra premium and if its clean, unmolested, hell yea.

Also this, very true. And you'll appreciate your car more and what you put into it.
