1996 Honda Civic DX - Original Owner

Greetings all. My name is Ross and I am the proud owner of a 1996 Civic DX that I have owned since day one.

Other than Momo rims and an after market CD player the car is stock. It's only got 162,000 km's on it and I have run full synthetic Amsoil in it for 15 years now. Original brakes and clutch as well. In fact other than oil changes and a timing belt I really have not had to do anything to her. /touch wood

It's safe to say this Civic has done me well and now it's time to give her some attention. My neighbour is restoring a 1973 Detomaso Pantera and although my car is nowhere near his cars league, he has convinced me to do some work on my car.

Problem is..... I know nothing about car mechanics. But, I am willing to learn.

I want to start slow and replace the DX cluster with a cluster with a tachometer.
The headlights are a bit on the cloudy side so replacing them is likely a good idea.
I am sure it will need some suspension work as well so that will be on the list.
The shifter rattles a lot at highway speeds so I need to figure that out too.
It needs a paint job too. But that will be at the end.

I look forward to leaving my comfort zone and learning how to work on my car.

Well how's that for luck.

Looked for a 96 EX cluster in KM and found one for under $100 with free shipping.

Best part is the new cluster has 302 more KM than my current cluster. Means no hassles with the KM. /weeeeeeeee

Nice job, and the cluster should be just plug and play too, easy install.

and get those pics posted up!

Get some Plast-X or whatever you can find over there for restoring headlights. It's SO much easier and cheaper than replacing them, the results come out very good generally.

Mine, before on the left, after on the right (mine weren't awful obviously)

Just keep it in your car, when you hit the same number, pull over and swap it out
It literally is plug and play though, you technically COULD do it that way.

I will drive with the old and swap out when they match for sure.

I can buy Plast-X locally for $12.00. Lunch time run.

Thanks for the tip.
