1997 Canadian EX is vtec or not?

Hey guys. Is the Canadian version of the 97 Civic EX Automatic Sedan VTEC or NOT? This is the first time I owned a Honda. I know for a fact that the car after 3500-4000 RPM just jumps forward in acceleration. I figured THAT is what vtec does. If you guys don't know exactly the answer is, what stock engine code has the vtec? I know my engine is 1.6 L, not 1.4 L. The car's also got a Tach gauge on the left most side. Hope that helps.

I'm asking this because I'm getting mixed feedbacks from people of whether or not the Canadian EX 4 door sedan has an SOHC VTEC or just a regular engine. Thanks.

Nope. Never worked at one. Thanks for your reply. I'm happy if it's a VTEC.

Can anyone else confirm please?

p.s. how's you figure I may have worked at a movie theatre?

i suggest you check your engine code to assess this 100%... it's stamped on the block.

D16y7 = nonvtec
d16y8 = vtec
d16y5 = vtec-e

YOU DA MAN!
Amabassador of Canadian VTECs =)

I just don't get why Honda has to make things complicated by seperating it's brands based on two countries in the same continent, speaking the same language. I mean when it comes down to it, you can still get the same type of car in both countries but with only a few letters missing or added or whatever.

I'll confirm my engine code tomorrow morning.

Thanks again.

I think the TACH gauge on the EX makes it stand out as a vtec?? Because I know the LX or DX does not have the TACH. Only Canadian SI, SIR and EX have it.
