1997 Civic LX (Auto)

Hi, I'm new to ClubCivic, so I was wondering if I could get some help...

I have a 97 Civic LX (auto), and I was thinking of getting a JRSC on it. I was also wondering what a good catback or muffler could be, headers (i could only find megan racing for my car), and intake (currently i have an aem short-ram).

I was also wondering if I could do a swap with a better performing engine (but keepin it auto also), then putting a JRSC over that. I don't know if that would be possible.

If anyone knows or have any info for me, please let me know.

Thanks!

or you could do a b18b autp swap

that might be cheaper than the h22 swap

any factual information behind that?
No, just my personal opinion. I honestly don't see the point in wasting money on a running a supercharger at 7psi when you can spend the same amount or less on a turbo and get more power.

I also think SC's are for American cars, turbo's belong on Euro/Japanese...but again, that's all merely personal opinion.

theoretically.... this is solely theory

since it is auto.. he lacks the ability to drop down a gear and put the rpms in the right boost range.
a supercharger would provide similar power throughout the power band.

however you probally could solve this problem with the turbo through tuning..

eitherway automatic trannies are horrible and prob wont hold any type of boost anyway

there are tons of headers for your car, not just the megan. if you are getting a header, cat and catback exhaust anyways, just get them all for the EX and they will work perfectly on your car.

wow, i'm glad i joined the club, plenty of good information.

So far i'm thinking about the b18b or the h22 swap with an sc. Would it be the jsrc or are there better superchargers out there? I liked the jsrc cuz it said on the site that the engine life isn't affected. If there are others like that it would be nice to know.

hehe, sorry about the whole automatic thing. for some reason i'm into it, and i just wanna make the most out of it despite its limitations.

btw: what's this thing i'm hearing about a jsrc + turbo? that's insane!... thinking... (h22 + jsrc + turbo)...

well as far as b18b or h22 ill go with a b18b.i have one and its the best buy i ever done.h22 has more power but also its way more expensive to fit.not only that but your going to have to buy a very good suspension for that h22.its damn heavy....well if you really going for s/c h22 would be kind of dump dont you think???its a high azz compression motor...you dont want that for s/c or turbo.if you actually buy a h22 and then s/c youll see that the numbers of money would be high as hell and not much power.if you boost a LS it would be cheaper and youll have more power than h22 s/c.thats why you dont hardly see people swaping h22.there expensive to fit and its heavy.

I didn't know I can buy a 98 ex I.H.E.'s and fit them into a 97 lx. Great info, gives me more options to work with!

I think I've come to my conclusion =]. A b18b swap with a jsrc for a fun (but not superfast) drive.

Now I think my only problem is... where do I start? Is there a thread on where to go about doing a swap? I heard some shops don't do it and some shops do...

Tell me if I'm wrong, or direct me to a thread, but does it go...

1. Find a local shop that does swaps.
2. Either tell them to find the engine i like, or buy one online and ship it to the shop.
3. They do the works.
4. Re-Register the car with the dmv? (unsure)
5. Then I'm good to go?

I always thought of it this way, automatic = super, stick = turbo.... atleast with stock civics... its what I was going to do with my.. guess what! 1997 Civic LX. But whiel saving up money for it... I found a great 99 dx hatch thats stick so... :P

and you believed them?

any time you squeeze a substantial amount of power out of a stock engine it will reduce the engine life...

more power = more wear = reduced engine life

also, by adding additional components to the motor you are just putting more parts on the car that can break and will require additional maintenance

my suggestion to you is to do more research.. we will only be able to answer your questions. however you will find that with a better understanding of the car itself you can go more in depth and really figure out what you want

check out the engine tech threads here.

and also check out the civic section of honda-tech.com ..... it is very informative *gasp)

imo that SC is going to wear the tranny just as a turbo would, auto trannys basically hate life and any extra force etc, makes them go boom quickly.

hmm, with all of the info so far, i think i'll go with a b18b and then decide on FI down the road. I'm sure doing a swap will already add a good amount of torque and hp to my civic. The only question now is... what are the steps to doing the swap? Also, would i need to re-register my vehicle with the dmv/insurance/etc?
