1997 tranny sound

I have a 1997 dx hatch, when the the clutch is released it makes kind of a grinding sound... More like a rough scratching sound. But when you press the clutch the sound goes away. I was thinking maybe the flywheel is scuffed and either needs to be turned or just replaced with a lightweight one. Its all bone stock with a d16y7 and has around 110k. Any ideas?

Carlos!
Does it make a growling noise when driving in gear? Mine does the same thing.
I'm 99% sure that it's your input shaft bearings.
I'm gonna replace mine soon.

Good luck

My tranny does the same thing. it isn't the pressure plate, clutch or flywheel, i replaced all those. My issue started a long time ago, never thought much of it, and now it seems almost as if my tranny is going out, 5th gear?

No only at a stand still, so maybe the input shaft bearing?

Yup, exactly what happeneed to me, It really won't effect driving or performance much, unless you let it go to long like me (going on over a year now). like i said, i tried replaced the clutch system, and none of the solved the problem. my tranny eventually starting making a loud screeching noise on top of it, plus the original rotating grind/whiny kind of noise. my dad is a honda tech, and we think it's the actual tranny just going bad, or the 5th gear, because when we droped the tranny and rotated the gears by hand the 5th gear had a little knock. it may not be, but either way, it isn't the flywheel. we replaced the throwout bearing as well, still didnt fix it. if you find the problem out and fix it without replacing or rebuilding the tranny let me know though =). but as of now i plan to replace the entire tranny. but my car still drives fine, its just an obnoxious noise.

--however, i replaced the clutch fluid after replacing the clutch and the screeching noise stopped, but the grind is still their at idle, and i also have a 97 hatch, cx though

When you put it in gear does the sound stop? or when you hold the clutch down? (if its a manual?)
my hatch stoped making the noise as soon as i put it in gear or press down the clutch.

That was my thought then everyone said no it was the input shaft bearing because the sound goes away when I press the the pedal. But either way how hard is it to replace either one of those?
