1999 civic fuel gauge

I have a 99 civic EX coupe, 100% stock. I was reading my owners manual, & it sounds like the gas gauge is suppose to go to E when you turn the car off. my gas needle just stays where it was before i shut the car off. Is it suppose to reset or not???????????

No, the gas gauge continues to display the gas level even when the key is off.
