Hello everyone, my dad has a white 1999 civic LX that's looking a little ragged. He will not be buying a new car for the next few years, so I've convinced him to work on getting it to look a little nicer (restore, not upgrade). Mechanically, the car is sound, but a lot of money has been spent fixing the AC, as years ago the compressor blew up and the entire AC system had to be replaced with all new parts. The AC then developed a leak 2 years later and had to spend another $400 fixing it. The car also developed a rattle that the shop determined was a bad catalytic converter. I just got an exhaust manifold and cat from Magnaflow and am having MIDAS put it on tomorrow.
The front right fender saw a hit very low, causing a dent and scrape. I am debating getting a white fender from a scrapped car, vs getting one of those ebay primed fenders and getting it painted by a shop. I got a vague estimate that fixing and painting the existing fender would be around $400, too much for the purposes intended.
The rear bumper is cracked due to a parking lot hit; I am seeing painted bumper covers on ebay for less than $300. I hope one of those would work.
The last thing I'm planning on doing is taking it to a detail shop, and having the guy do a detail of the century. What other not so expensive suggestions do you all have? I'm also getting new (used) hubcaps and a new replacement grill because the existing one is really sun faded.
