1999 SiR Bad idle/CEL flashes/3k rpm limit

I bought the car 2 weeks ago with busted turbo seals. Changed the turbo for a brand new one. It ran perfect for a couple of hours than it suddenly s*** on me. Idles weird, CEL Flashes 1 long time than 10 times fast. When I try to accelerate, it cuts out at 3k rpm and looses all power until I shift. Still hits 9psi. No vacuum leaks. Need help ASAP

You're getting the flashing CEL with the service connector jumped, right? If so, it can't be 1 long and 10 short... that would be just 2 long (code 20). Long flashes = 10, short = 1. The total will give you your code. If there's more than one code, there will be a slight pause before it goes on to the next. Once all code's flash, it will repeat itself starting with the first code. Can you verify the CEL flashes?

Sounds like the ECU is in limp mode, sooo I wouldn't drive it until you get this resolved.

And it IS tuned, right?

I'm not sure if it's jumped? The CEL flashes 1 long 10 short. I'd show you a video if I could. And yes it is tuned.

What's it tuned on? Just curious.

If the CEL was off at any other point, it's not jumped. You can check my looking at the blue connector underneath the dash on the passenger side near the ECU.

Sounds to me like it's not jumped and it's flashing at you to tell you not to drive it. Is there any pause at all between the 10 short flashes?

You either need to take a vid of the flashing or have someone else look at it.

How many PSI was it on before and what is it getting to now? Do you know what the boost cut is on this tune? Does it have a stock MAP? You put the EXACT same size turbo on it as before? Internally gated or external? What brand turbo/wastegate is it?

Can I post a vid on this forum?

It was set on 9psi and it still is hitting 9psi. It has a JDM external waste gate. And the turbo on it before was a t3/t4. I swapped it out for a .50 trim eBay turbo. And I'm pretty sure it's a stock MAP.

I forgot to mention that the check engine light only flashes when I turn the key over, not start it. When I start it and let it run, it just constantly stays on.

Dude, you're well on your way to destroying this car.

First off, that ebay wastegate could be your culprit. Secondly, it could also be your gauge. You say it was running fine at 9psi before, and is cutting out now. This leads me to believe that the car is now trying to push past 9si and is hitting a boost cut or possibly running past the capability of the stock MAP (anywhere from 9.5-11psi).

The fact that you put a different sized turbo on there is another issue. If it is bigger you may be hitting an a/f cut limit of some kind as well. Again, you need to show us or have someone read the code for you. Code 10 is the IAT sensor, and I kow that for 98+(or somewhere around there) the it was in a rubber grommet on the stock intake. Well since your car is boosted I'm sure it's just sitting in the bay somewhere, so code 10 is going to show up unless the ECU is told not to show that code.

Honestly dude, I would just convert this thing back to N/A ASAP and save yourself the headache. This car is a ticking time bomb, that is a FACT.

You can post a video to Youtube and just link it here.

What was the trim on the old turbo?

Also, try this and see what you get for flashes then:

The trim has nothing to do with the size of the turbo, just the size of the inducer relative to the exducer of the compressor.

A three foot wide compressor can be a "20" trim and a 3in wide compressor can be a "60" trim.

I don't know about you, but I don't count 10....

Check your plug wire order and that the plug wires are loose or broken. If they're old, replace them.

You only count eight because the video was taken AFTER I jumped the CEL connector.

Yep, check your plug wires and inspect the distributor. If the plug wires are old, replace them.
