Hi I have 2 questions, I have a sohc civic ex, mods so far are cold air intake, and catbacks, everything else is stock. The proble im having is the car is a low rpm dog before 3000 rpm then it will start pulling. does anyone else have this problem and what could it be.
I was thinking about buying a head thats already ported and polished but all the rest is stock, cams valves etc, should i buy it and build it with the cams and aftermarket valves and springs and then install it or should i just work with whats on the car already?
Thanks KEV

First of all get that SOHC engine out of there like I am doing with mine..... but some cold air intakes slow the car down off the line you lose low end torque but it helps at high rpm's i have a civic ex too and i took out my resonator but i don't have those problems..... if i were you i wouldn't put anymore money into that engine save up and swap

I was going to go all motor than add turbo
i was going to send trans to level 10
I like the idea of the sohc motor for the price of a swap i can get most of what i want done.

i have a 98 ex and i know what you're talkin about, the d series engines lack low end power..my car picks up after like 3000rpms and i even have a bore increase...

I have seen a 305 wheel horse power SOHC engine that was turboed it was nice..but it is pretty expensive to do, but nice becuase it rare to see a SOHC engine with that much go.....As for a low rpm dog, DUH!!!..its a Honda, hondas have NO torque which is what you will find at low rpms......But I would say if you want to stick with SOHC, you truely do, then go for it, but I would N/A a B18c5 then turbo it before I did the same to a SOHC engine...good luck

im currently looking into turbo'n my sohc d16...i think if it were meant for me to have another engine like a b16 or a b18 i would have gotten that car to begin with so im just gunna work with what was supplied to me..

i hear that most intake/catback setups will cost you some low end. and i can testify with my mine (can notice an even bigger loss with the silencer out). for the all motor turbo sohc, i thinks thats pretty cool. i was debating on wether to pull mine for a b series or go all out with the d. i think i'll stick with the origional sohc and build it up. like someone else said, its pretty rare to see a sohc breaking the 300 whp mark! well, gook luck.

nice im really just going to hit 250hp mark im not going to get higher than that cause i dont want to sacrifice drivability but then im going to have the trans bulletproffed and swap out seats and basically try to dump as much weight a s possible. car should fly

Damn, and I thought there was something wrong with my car cause it was not picking up till 3k. I am glad it is not just my car that does that.

don't know if i would go to all that....just keep it reved high, thats where hondas make their power. there is practically nothing <3 grand to begin with, let alone with an free flowing intake and exhaust. don't be afraid to swing the tach around, thats where you feel the power. vtec baby!

the way i figure it its good to be diffrent and not just do a swap, the pronblem is that there are so many types of aftermarket parts is finding the ones that work well with each other

your bolt-ons are probably all made to focus on high-end power.. which means sacrificing low-range power.. plus hondas are really known for their low end power

Dont waste anymore money on your motor. Ive been there and its not worth it. Save for a swap, youll be happier.
