2000 civic si overheating issue HELP!

i have a 2000 civic si the other day i noticed the temp needle close to the H i had the a ac on so i turned it off needle went down a little but then stayed between the half way mark and 3/4 mark never touching the H.i was driving to the beach when i noticed got there with no issues and got back with no issues.its a 26 mile drive to the beach by the way.so when i got home i checked reservoir it reads just under MAX when car is warmed up and reads MIN when cold.also when i was letting the car warm up and needle got halfway fan did not turn on.UPPER hose was Hot LOWER hose was Cold.i took the car for a few laps once car was warmed up.
I hit v-tech 3 to 4 times needle went up slowly. after the third lap i got home needle was close to 3/4 mark and the LOWER hose was a bit warmer not as hot as Upper hose but alot warmer then after the car had warmed up .i have not seen any white smoke out of the exhaust and there are no signs of leaking.

if anybody has any more troubleshooting tips or advice on what my problem might be the help will be greatly appreciated. AND THANKS FOR THE TIME IT TOOK TO READ THIS I KNOW I PROBABLY OVER EXPLAINED MYSELF BUT I FIGURED MORE INFO IS BETTER THAN LESS.

With the description given it is easy to say that you are most likely beginning to have or experiencing a water pump failure in its early stages. For a better diagnoses you would have to do a bit more work, so are you a bit mechanically savvy? if yes, test the thermostat; And then we can go from here and try and deduce any other coolant system issues that you might have/are contributing.

Depending on how hot your state/region (etc) can get is the viscosity you should use for your engine, apart from that the oil loss also contributes a lot to your engines overheating problem. How far ago was the last oil change? I'm more than sure you might have an oil leak, have you noticed anything? Try and check in every nook and cranny you can. If there aren't any external leaks, then the oil must be leaking (or burning) internally (but for this you would most likely see a bit of smoke depending on where and how).

Not true, a properly maintained engine will give continuous and proper results. Should you decide not to do certain maintenances you will see a decrease in performance, this certain for most if not all engines.
