2000 ex a/c repair prices

My ac went out about 3 months ago. Prior to it going out it would work on and off. I went to 2 shops, first shop said that it needs a new compressor and would cost $630. I thought that was kinda high and wanted to shop around so I went to another shop and they did a more in depth check that I had to pay for and came back telling me I need a new compressor and a AC computer that sends a signal to turn the compressor on. (I never heard of this). Regardless they quoted me $1500! Does this seem right to you guys? Im on a very tight budget so whatever you think please give me advice.

well when i had my ac repaired about a yr ago, it cost about 1100 for parts and labor at a Honda dealership. But the car was under warranty from the dealer so i didnt pay a thing. They replaced the compressor and and the receiver/drier on the system, recharged the system.

The quote on my invoice for the ac compressor was 680 for the part and labor. All part were genuine Honda. Hope that give you an idea.
