2000 SI - How does the stock 6 speaker system work with a new head unit?

I've got a stock 2000 SI that has a six speaker system. There are two small tweeters in the upper door area along with the standard door speakers down below and the regular speakers on the rear shelf. I need to replace the head unit because the display is bad and I want a USB input, etc. I don't need the big booming base or super high volume so I just want to put in one of the low end 50 watt 4 channel head units you find at Walmart or Best Buy. I have a unit like that in my pickup truck and it's plenty loud enough and the sound quality is adequate for me.

My question is this - do I need a radio with 6 speaker outputs or do the stock speakers in the door work together somehow to act like a single speaker as far as the head unit is concerned?

all you would need a 4ch outputs the front speaker and tweeter are connected together

any headunit will do, it's really not a 6 speaker stereo, just tweeters

Thanks. I bought a 4 output Jenson that was on clearance at Walmart. It even has a small display.

Sometimes you have to buy an install kit and wire harness. Be carefull with that Jensen, I had one and the head unit itself worked fine, but the buttons stopped working. I actually drilled holds through the face of the unit and exposed the little buttons inside and hit them. They go kinda cheap on the lil stuff, but yeah that's all you need.
