Installing a head unit in a 2004 civic? i was mad confused too, but here we go, pics of most steps
1) Remove trim ring around shifter, open cup holder and stick finger in slot under larger shifter surround. Lift up with necessary force. Stiff at first but does come up if you try hard enough.
2) Remove screws near above cup holders, showin in pic 07 with red arrows
3) Pull horseshoe shaped piece housing cig lighter and delete panels out from sides as shown in pic 06.jpg
4) Pull horseshoe shaped piece forward, unplug cigarette lighter and remove it and place it aside.
5) Using 8mm socket (on a monkey wrench) make sure u use a monkey wrench or you'll strip the screw remove the screws above cup holders, showin in pic 07 with red arrows
6) (The tricky part to explain) You probably noticed a metal bar, about 1.5" wide and 5" long which had those 2 screws in it. Above it, sitting right on top of it, is another metal bar. You need to put your fingers behind (both hands) and feel where the top bar is. This bar is attached to the large piece that has the deck and climate controls. You need to push it UP and OUT. There are no more screws to remove at this point, just push up and out. (AND REMEMBER THIS IS HARD, YOU HAVE TO ALSO USE A FLAT HEAD SCREW DRIVER COVERED BY A CLOTH TO PUT IT BETWEEN THE DASH AND THE BLACK PANEL AND PRY IT OUT)
