im looking to invest into a set of 6.5" components. i really dont know whats good and whats not when it comes to small speakers (im a subwoofer guy). so i decided its time to upgrade to something that will give very nice sound quality and can get loud without distorting. im gonna run them off the HU for now, but eventually amp them. this 6.5" set will be for the front.

my budget is $150 -+. im really looking for the best bang for the buck type of equipment. i will most likely purchase it off www.onlinecarstereo.com www.ikesound.com or eBay.

what would you guys recommend and why?

You can't run a good set of components off the HU. It'll be underpowered and sound like crap.

At any rate, I run MB Quart for my components. Two :ok: from me.

Personally, I find MBQs a little too shiny.

Alpine, MB Q, are fine choices. And yes, DO NOT run them off your HU. If you get any sound out of them, you are stressing the HU a lot as it breaks down the impedence which makes more heat which cooks your HU early. =)

alpine type R's are good or i heard MBQ are the best...
The MB's are great. Although the titanium tweeters can get a little rough on the ears at times. But it's clear as hell at any volume.

Don't you have a sub to put out the bass?

This one is hard to answer. In this case one mans trash is another mans treasure. I am partial to Boston Acoustics. I have two pair of Boston Pro 6.5's in my car and they sound awesome. They get loud enough to make your ears bleed without distorting. One thing about Boston's is that they are known for being very "bright" speakers and have crystal clear highs. Boston does have a low end pair of 6.5 seperates but the exact price isn't listed. If you try to crank the speakers off only the head unit your run a serious risk of blowing them. Underpowering your speakers is very dangerous. If you have the chance to get into a store and listen to a few different pair of speakers I highly recommend it.

MB Quarts are defitly the best choice, but on a tight budget, BAs are nice, and if u wanna go for a nice set of 3ways (Infinity Kappas) let me know

I am a bit leary of mb quart since they got bought by fosgate. Just my Opinion though.
I Love the Alpine type R components and the Image Dynamic components. (especially their compression horns)

Bostons are a good speaker as well. Bit on the spendy side though.
For the money I wuld say the type r components
