Im considering installing a tow hitch in order to mount a bike rack on it so I free up trunk access while distancing my bike from the paint & body, I would appreciate any suggestions and/or recommendations. So far, Im considering the Reese Towpower Class-I hitch (77194). This is more or less the set-up I like.

I used a trunk mounted rack with no paint problems, on my crx and ej1.

But idk much about hitches.

I finally had Uhaul install a hitch, the only Class-I hitch style they offer for EK civics. I then went for a Swagman XC 2-Bike platform rack, pictured below. The only issue was that it needed some spacers for the tire holder knobs to tighten properly. $2 took care of that. Otherwise, its very solid & sturdy. My bike doesnt budge at all even on the highway.

Nice when I used to bmx I'd just stuff my whole bike into the trunk.. I need to move a bigger bike now. I have one of those $$$ ricer yakima bike racks that came on my car. I took it off and tossed it into the bushes behind my house, can't believe the owner before me spent over 700 on something you have to remove the front tire(s) to use. What you have looks nice. I just want to mount and go.

Ah, good job OP for bringing this back. Any photos of that mounted on your car for other people to see if they're looking for bike mounts too?

I got tired of stuffing my costly bike in the trunk & not having a back seat. Now I can transport it safely anywhere I want without having to take anything off. When I'm done, the rack folds up, the hitch arm extension comes, and it all goes in the trunk.

No pictures yet. I'll try to post some up soon. The Civic is being repainted at the moment, so when Im done with it I'll mount the rack & post a picture.

They have bike mount attachments that don't require removal of the front tire.

Here is a recent picture of the mounted rack but folded up. I recently moved & drove 1100 miles with the bike mounted on it without issue. The bike barely moved. Eventually I'll post a picture with the bike mounted.
