Ok, so 2 years ago, i blew my engine (Y8). CAI, water, piston throught the tranny, not good. So, I went to a mech to get it replaced and he put in a Y8 from a 99. My question is are the wiring any different from 96 to 99. Cuz i noticed that my buddy 99 civic ex gets WAY more miles then mine, my average is about 300 @ 10 gallons, he was getting like 430 @ 10 gallons. Is there something that can be affecting it from the newer engine?

MPG depends on how you drive, if its mostly highway or mostly city....different things can affect it like having a clean air filter..etc.

thats what i was saying, but i looked at his cluster and he had 430 as he filled up. It weird, i live on base driving 1 mile to work and i have driven different ways. early shfting (5th gear on a 25 zone) to late shifts (3rd gear on 25 zone) and both ways no change. Even when my gurls was here. I went from tampa to orlando, about 70 miles each way, i went there and back 3 times in a 3 day period and still no change in mpg. I heard 96-98 was OBD2a and 99-00 was OBD2b, is that true? If so, could that be affecting it?

Yea, 96-98 is OBD2a, and 99-00 is OBD2b. But that shouldnt affect your MPG....

After putting bolt-ons like CIA and exhaust, dosent the car run more richer? Therefor using more gas? I think thats what I read somewhere...

I thought it was supposed to better, more flow, more air, less restriction = better gas milage?

i have had a CAI on for a couple years and just within the last 3 weeks, put on a catback exhaust. i keep track of MPG and the first tank was screwin around becuase i had new toy on it, but on the next tank i got 35mpg, and thats 2-3 mpg better than normal.

i havent had a normal tank since, either stuck in traffic or screwing around. but we will see and ill let ya know...if your interested.

i get close to 400 a tank. but a tank is 11 gallons

i got 428 once on 11.5 gallons. that means when i filled up i only had .4 gallons in my tank

yeah, i usually get between 350-390 a tank, usually using anywhere from 8 to 10 gallons, depending how often i fill up.

see, thats what i am talking abou. I have tried different styles, quick shifts (ONLY revving to 2K), granny driving (driving in 5th gear no matter what speed), slightly aggressive (stay a little under 2K rpm) and lately, kind of wild (staying between 2K-2.5K rpm's) and still, every single time im barely at 30 mpg. I dont get it. I tried spark plugs, filter, PCV valve, even after the dealership did the free 96 service (new dizzy, spark plugs, wires) and still no change. Normally it wouldnt bug me since i live on base and I fill up once every 3-4 weeks, but in a month and a half im driving cross country to go back home so i want to get as many miles as i can.
