Now when i bought this car it’s still got the original 6x9 rear speakers in the parcel shelf. i am sure most people who own a coupe in this club would of changed these petty 15w speakers. Can anybody tell me an easy way to change them? Thanks in advance!

I couldn't find the link to the one I followed but it's easy enough that you shouldn't need instructions. Remove back seat and back/side panels. That's pretty much all it takes.

what a ball-ache, in my hatch it literally took 10 minutes: 4 screws which removed the grill, another 4 to remove the speaker, then just chopped the wires and re-soldered them onto my new speakers. Mind you, its possible the hatch is completely different and comes with 6x9's stock anyway, so was a straight swap

With Pioneer surface mount speakers and zip-ties :rolf:

The above link is pretty good. The guy's wiring looks like s**t and his bass cannon is comical, but that's how speaker removal works in the 6th gens I've seen.

In 5th gen sedans you just lay down in the trunk and remove the grills from underneath then remove the speakers from the top. You might wanna take a look and see if you can do that but I don't think you can.

its pretty much a b***h to do. the rear side panels have to come out so the rear deck piece can come off. after that its easy. reinstalling the panels can be a b***h if you dont get the push pegs lined up correctly

It takes a bit of work to get too, i removed the entire rear dash when i was putting in my 6.5 components in the rear of my ex. you have to loosen/remove rear side panels and lift/remove rear dash altogether. Goodluck took me 30mins to put speakers in. closer to 40 finding and mountin crossovers lol.

Leave 6x9 rear speakers alone! LOL just get a big box of sub, and u won't have to replace stock speakers.

jigg-saw that s**t out! lol, you could leave the stock ones alone and instead cut into the parcel shelf and install your aftermarket speakers in there? then maybe wire them up to an amp and run that to your head unit. only really worth the effort if you've got a decent head unit i guess.

For some reason my rear speakers still sound the same (s**t) even after i swapped em. The same speakers + same head unit sounded much better in my last car, i'm guessing the stock wiring to the rear is s**t, so planning on re-doing all that. So unless your serious about sound, its probably not worth the effort.

get a 4 channel amp for all 4 of your speakers.
Wiring to the rear speaks is real simple, but to the doors is a real pain in the ass though

go to crutchfield, and buy component speakers and a cheap amp. the 6.5" and 5.25" both come free with 6x9 adapters, unless u wanna buy some 6x9's and hook those to an amp. Its really not as hard as everyone is making it out to be. Its just a wee bit of a hassle.

Easy Way to install 6x9 speakers in civic coupes 96-00

there is an easier way than ripping all your rear interior panels off.. as most of you probably know interior panels are very difficult to get in the right place again and can rattle when you put them back on. All I did was get a thin strong blade and very carefully pried the speaker covers off with the help of a prying tool i managed to get both off with very minimal damage, that nobody will EVER notice unless they look up close.. but if you do it right nobody will be the wiser that you replaced your stock speakers.. Moving along now, so there are 4 mounting points for the speaker 2 of which you can unscrew but the other two are a little problem, which I solved by breaking the white plastic clips from the bottom. Only break the two you cannot unscrew.. from there you can disconnect your stock speakers. now I am sure you may be concerned that only two screws in each speaker are holding it down. well what I used for the other two mounting points was double sided permanent stick mounting tape, I beleive 3M and Duck Tape make some so you can put a square of that on each point and viola! problem solved. I put Alpine Type R speakers in and the magnet is quite heavy so the speaker stays in there fine, I have heard no rattling at all. so If you don't want to risk F*cking up your rear interior panels use this method. Oh and I guess I forgot to add Make sure when you are soldering your speaker wires to your speakers that you have the positive and negative wires going to the right place!! the whole process took me an hour and a half maybe, worth my time for sure now I can hear my tunes with crystal clarity and NO RATTLING :D :D

Everyone, its really not that hard, just time consuming. just have to be careful when your doing it not to mess anything up.

Okay, It is a pain in the ass. But it's worth it. And secondly, after you take them out, when putting them back in, don't drop them into the hole and screw it down. Hold it at the bottom of the hole and screw in them. I don't know if that makes sense to you, but it allows you to take them out without removing all the panels and backseat, the next time you want to change it.
