i have 6 1/2" speakers in my rear dash now but i want something larger. of course, the hole for the speakers in my ex will only accomodate a 6 1/2" speaker. is there a way around this? or will i have to cut out the rear dash and creat my own out of carbon fiber or fiber glass?

i think the supports for your trunk are right under the speakers, some shallow 6x9's will work or with enough work you fit some 8" free-air (or you can make most sigle vc's work) subs.... and if you're nuts enough maybe even some 10's

Use your rear deck carpeting as a template and cut a piece of plywood or mdf or w/e you want and cut out the speaker size in the wood. Then put that over your rear deck and carpet it. Thats what I might be doing pretty soon.

if you look at your rear deck it is contoured. a flat rear deck that's raised up might look sorta goofy. but i might be wrong, pics?

I haven't actually done it yet, but I think I will be trying it sooner or later. I am strapped for cash as it is.

your gauges are cool :thumbs up did you ever think about using that colored plastic paper. it's the sort that's used for overhead transparacies but it's slightly textured and colored white. it's actually pretty much the same material my whit face gauges are that i bought. you can pick it up at any print shop or stationairy store

I'm guessing you have a 2dr coupe. cutting bigger holes will be a problem because of the trunk tension rods. What are you tring to do? more bass? just louder?. If it bass maybe add like a 10" sub. Or replace your 6 1/2 with something that can handle more power and add an amp to it. Putting 6x9 on the rear quarter panel would be a good choice too. I did somthing like this for my 4DR. I enter DB drags with my 4DR. I'm in the dual 15' s class. So I had to gutt out my rear dash to fit my sub enclosure.I wanted to run rear speakers so I could still play music. I mounted 6 1/2 coaxial on my rear door, next to the door handle. A little wood and bondo and tadaaa.

hey man, i made a custom mold for the rear trunk deck for my 93 hatch out of 1/2 thick sub box wood and carpeted it and mounted it. i took out my spare tire and mounted a 12" sub with an amp. im also cutting 2 6x9 holes and mounting them back there as well, the sound quality is great.
