the prob with buying a car with that much work done to it is you dont know how much its been beat. most people who swap don t treat the car with kid gloves, they get out and drive the snot out of it. not to mention your buying someone else's view of a customized car, not your own.

:werd: my car has 150 000 miles, but i bought it stock from old people, so chances of it beeing babied are very good, it runs fine and doesnt burn a drop of oil...like mike said, this car has been run hard and long you know it....buy your own and mod that up....and also you dont know how shotty the work was done when everything was installed

I agree. My Civic 93 HB has 120.000 miles on it, but there has been one (kinda old guy) owner since it was 1 year old. It has been serviced every since. The service book is literally filled with entries, and there has never been major faults with the car.

I was looking at several cars before I got this. One of them had 78k miles on it's clock, but the engine was literally drenched in oil, there were 16" alloys on them (which were damaged = sign that the car has not been treated well), and the seats had holes and stains all over them. it was a much nicer car on the outside (with the hood closed), but once you got to have a real look at it you could easily see the car had been abused.

the one I ended up getting (the one from the old single guy) had a perfect interior (because there had only been one person in the car; in the drivers seat), and no signs of any oil leaks at all. it ran perfect and he wouldn't even let me testdrive it myself. he drove the car while I was the passenger. this was a sign he was careing about the car, and I bought it there and then.

if you want a car for mod'ing, don't buy one that is allready mod'ed, unless you know the history of the car. you have to be really sure that it hasn't been abused. if you go with an old-folks car, you have a much better starting point, than some half-tuned wannabe street-racer car.

Just my $0.02...

I partly agree. I see the biggest danger are the half-way modified cars. You know, the ones with maybe lowering, some fancy interior here and there, and lowered. Those are generally f*cked over.
However, the ones that are seriously done (I mean, it's got a ceramic clutch and an intake manifold) usually are looked after a lot better because there are a lot of money put into the car. You wouldn't want a car you've spent $10k on to just blow up it's engine.
Ofcourse it has been driven harder than your average old-folks' car, but if the car is upgraded to handle that extra stress, then I see no problems with it. I would check when he last got the engine/head looked at though. If he did this not long ago, I would probably buy it.
