I had a question about my 93 civic ex. Ok first, On the D16D6 motors does it say vtec on the valve cover or does some not say on some of the valve covers. Does the ex models have a vtec light in the instrument cluster? or not. Mine doesnt and I was wondering if It means that I don't have vtec or doesn't I can't tell. People say that my car should have vtec but I can't tell. Can someone tell me a way to see If my car has vtec or not cuz the motor is stock and the valve cover doesn't say it and the instrument cluster doesn't have a vtec light.

So basically just race my car and listen for the vtec. What gear should I be in when I try this out.

^ ^ ^ ^ exactly what exboy said. Plus you can look for the block stamp that says D16Z6. With a SRI or CAI you can really hear your engine switching over to the vtec cam lobes.

Does it matter what gear I'm in to hear the most of the vtec?

Did it come as an option from the factory or did all the ex models have vtec?

yea, my d16z6 doesn't say vtec on the valve cover, I'm pretty sure there was only a few models that didn't... but they're still z6s. Also, you might not be able to hear your vtec since it's sohc but if your block says d16z6 99.9% it's VTEC... the .1% is for if someone swapped out the Z6 head for a non-vtec head

The motor is a D16Z6. If it hasn't been tampered with, it has VTEC and it engauges at 5500, not 4500rpm. There will not be a VTEC light.

The vtec light if it has one would be on the instrument cluster in the top left corner usually. At least that is where iv'e seen some. Yea the motor says D16Z6 on it. I was just woulnderin' cause I didn't see a vtec light or vtec on the valve cover so I wasn't sure if it had vtec or not. Thanks for the help.

open up your hood. On the left hand side of the block (i believe) there should be this connecting looking thing that is green. thats how you can tell if you have VTEC in your z6.

Oh. ok thanks for the help. And about the black valve covers, I don't know, I painted mine blue and can't remember the original color. I raced my car to night and didn't hear a big difference around 5500 rpm's. I probably wouldn't though cause they don't have much power(in my opinion) to start with. Oh well I'll just try sell it to help get money for a LS swap on my car. Again, thanks for the help.

I have a 93 civ and I installed a VTEC activation light, look up the thread I gave instructions for installation. The valve cover does not say VTEC on mine only after 93 did they say VTEC. The VTEC activation should kick on at exactly 5000 rpm's. for that year.
