The driver side door handle on the hatch I'm getting in a few days doesn't open and close properly. We got it to open so the door will at least open, but the handle stays open. (We used a pipe cleaner) Along with that, the door won't lock from the key, only from inside. Now, this isn't really a problem, but what would I need to completely fix the door handle back to it's snappiness and working lock? I'll have to take a picture of what I mean this weekend.

Hey,
On a car this old, some things just start to wear out, and of all the door handles, which one gets used the most? Well, the driver's side, of course.

The "best" recommendation I can give you is to buy replacement door handles. They're not overly expensive, and they're simple enough to install. Mine had a broken driver side exterior handle when I bought it, and replacing it was one of the first things I did.

Since the door won't lock with the key, there's a good chance the lock solenoid isn't being held in place, but I honestly couldn't tell you without looking at it.

Keep us posted.

The lock isn't electronic. It's a lever that the rod might not be connected to. The panel is coming off tomorrow.

So I made a mistake when I locked the door. I can pull the lock on the onside but the door doesn't open from either handle. My drivers side door is permanently locked until I figure this out. It gets annoying hopping in the passenger side to get in my car. I managed to get the panel off through some foreplay, and triedpulling the rods manually. Neither worked. I think the component that runs along side the back of the door might be damaged. I may go and get one from a junkyard if that's the problem. The only picture I have is this.
