94 civic VX

Hi everyone. I am new to the forum. I have owned my 94 VX since new and it has always been garaged. (Best part is it still looks new, gets 42mpg and has 291,505 miles). I just recently put a digital clock in the space above the flasher unit. It is the type clock that has only one long button under it. I have tried to adjust it by pushing the button with the ignition off. The clock comes on but does not adjust. What am I doing wrong.
