94' CX Hatchback: Turbo or Supercharger?

Hey I'm not really the most enlightened on how engines work but basically I’m trying to get some more power out of my engine. As of right now it’s completely stock and I was thinking of putting a turbo or a supercharger on it. The problem is I don’t know the pros and cons all that well of each one and I’m not looking to drop a few g’s on this project (trying to keep it cheap.) So basically what will get me the most bang for my buck and provide the most noticeable difference in the performance of the car?

EDIT: If you guys have any specific brands that you could direct me toward that would be greatly appreciated as well.

if you want to boost it your are going to have to spend at least 1500 in the car. its best if you just keep it stock.

I'm willing to spend that. I just didn't want to get up into the crazy 3-5 thousand range.

Look up on google, there's a ton of threads on turbo charging;but there's alot of info to soak up.

Yeah I know I was reading up on it. It's pretty overwhelming. I was just asking if someone could spell out the different benefits between a turbo and a supercharger for me?

I would go turbo. Supercharger will kill your MPG, and if you're on a budget, you don't want to pay more for gas, haaa. Seems like the majority of us on here go turbo, so I think that's going to be the most of the responses you get. Piece together a decent turbo kit, you can use a DSM BOV and Injectors to keep costs down, even a turbo from a DSM if you want. You'll need to tap your oil pan, get some feed lines, a new fuel pump, intercooler with piping, a custom downpipe, and if you don't have already, a bigger sized exhaust, 2.5 at least. Essentially that's all.

what do you want with the car? peak power fast in a straight line? quick usable power?

Quick useable power. I'm more worried about good acceleration than high max-speeds (which I will barley ever use.) More of a quick street car than a like drag car.

they each have there pros and cons. superchargers are cooler/ more reliable but they dont produce as much power per pound. turbos arent very reliable but will get you more power. i know its expensive but i know that peakboost makes a very very nice kit. check out rcautoworks.com.. they have really good prices

if that what you're looking for i say supercharger. Its the stock motor in the cx? Thats a d15, use your money and get that thing out of there, go at least to a d16z6. B series would be best for your budget.

A Jackson Racing supercharger will probably work better for that. Initially

But soon you'll find yourself changing the pulley and trying to get more out of it.

Alright thanks. I was just looking for some info to determine which way I will go with my engine. I think I'm gonna try and do an engine swap for now like slowcivic said. And after that see about a little turbo. My friend said I should just get a smaller one and run it at about 8psi, but with a 3" exhaust do you think that would cause any problems?

IMO, I think a 3 inch catback would be beneficial on a turbo build, espicaily if you start with a t3 and have room to upgrade later.
