95 Civic DX A/C not working

Ok, previous owner of the Civic told us that she had it charged and it cooled for one day and that's it.
Haven't checked (bought the car in '07 from her) what the issue was/is since we got it.
Someone told me to use the refrigerant with leak stop. Is it save to use it or should we stay away from that stuff? Help and ideas on fixing the a/c appreciated

If enough refrigerant leaked out in one day to make it stop cooling again then leak stop won't help. If you have the tools to do it, I would replace the seals at the compressor and pressure test with nitrogen (not air). Then if it holds, pull a good vacuum and recharge with the refrigerant. Then you turn it on and see if your compressor is any good.

Don't add any leak stop product. That will just destroy the system.

Some basic A/C troubleshooting is the place to start:

1) Does the light in the A/C botton illuminate when it is pressed?

2) Does the condenser fan run when the A/C is turned on?

3) Does the compressor clutch ever engage when the A/C is turned on?
