'96-'98 to '99-'00 Differences?

I'm looking at buying a 1997 honda civic hatchback, CHEAP! I like the front bumper of the '99-'00 cars better though, and I'm wondering, how much needs to be changed on the car to make the later bumper work (as a bolt on, no modification)? I'm already planning on getting a Carbon fiber hood, because the existing hood is a little dented. The car is in otherwise great shape, and I want to keep the cost to a minimum.

Thanks,
Nicholas Feigen

front bumper cover, both headlights, hood, both fenders, and possibly radiator support (you can keep the current one but it might be a tight fit)

wanna post some pics of your 325??

what does the radiator support have to do with changing the fron end of the car? ur not changing the inside.

it has to do with screw holes for the new bumper and fenders....plus the grill is wider...it needs to be replaced...as far as other differences...96-98 rear bumpers are wrapped inward whereas 99-00 have a slip tip under their bumpers.....also...97 is the only year that ek's didn't come with anti-lock brakes....i would try to find a 99-00 one if i were you...save you some time and frustration...and braking distance

The lack of ABS doesn't bother me. I don't need it, I've only had one car with ABS, and It was a never ending source of trouble (the ABS, the rest of the car was fine). How much should all of that stuff for the front cost??? Does anyone have pictures of both iterations of the Gen-6's (stock) next to each other to compare the differences?

Anyway, as requested, here are some pictures of my 325e, sorry for the crappy quality, these were taken a while back, and I only had a garbage digi-cam. This car might be for sale soon, by the way.

Damn, ur intake manifold looks like an octopuss! Crazy strut bar too! I like!

Oh, back to the subject. My friend did a 99-00 conversion to his 97 hatch and everything bolted right up. At least he didnt complain about anything not fitting.

Basically, you need the whole front of a 99-00 civic to complete the makeover.

ABS is overated....if you can't drive worth crap then you need it. If you feel like you need the extra security of ABS then get it.

Are any of the parts different for a hatch versus a coupe or sedan?

I think that the 4dr fenders are shorter but Im not sure so use the parts from a 99--00 coupe or the hatch. Unless someone can clarify about the 4dr fenders on a coupe or hatch.

Get the grill from the Si and everything else from the coupe or hatch.

Oh, BTW agree with you on the ABS is overrated point... I won't say it's not nice to have in the winter, but I've never gotten into trouble not having it, plus, the ABS module in my '85 BMW 535 weighed like 50 LBS, even if a CIVIC one only weighs half that, that's pretty decent weight savings not having it... Isn't that the whole point of having the Hatch? =)

Also, Locusst, I noticed you're in Des Moines, I'm in Ames, but I work in Urbandale, in fact, that's the main reason I'm looking for a Civic, as a commuter.
