96 Civic Coupe Tach not working.

I have a 1996 Civic D16y8 motor, the tach does not work apart from random moments where it jumps around then stops working again. The car runs fine smooth no problem. Could there be a loose connection on the back of the cluster? Or could it be a under the hood connection?

All advice is appreciated.

You can check if the cluster's connected up, just take off the 2 screws in the bezel, then the 4 screws on the borders of the cluster when you take the bezel off, if that's not the case here are some links to threads you should check out:
