before the "sigh;s and omg why's" this is gonna be my first build and dipping my hands into the honda world. i had the car for a year now and im ready to take it to the next step before a swap or turbo. i just wanna make her a little faster. so far i've bought a full exhaust system and header thats about all. now im ready to open her up and do some real work.
ive see people constantly bash one another about the d series but help is help. right? besides im a father of a 3 year old i have higher priorities than my car.

i have a d16y8 stock, so if you can provide POSITIVE tips that would be awesome. ive seen some clean d set ups.

i rather be na, and coulld someone break down the mini me swap i understand the y8 head with the y7 bottem end....but seems you get more hp and torque but how and could i do something similar to that but keep it all y8

Buuld up the internals of the engine, and allow the engine to breath as good as possible. Otherwise most of the work with making a faster na set up on a d series is going to be lightening your car and tuning your suspension. Cant get too much power out of a d series engine. They just are not made for it, but your car should be light enough to have some fun on the streets if that is all you want. Maybe switch your transmission to a d16z6 trans. Shorter gears and a bit more get up and go.

there is no reason to worry about the mini me swap since you already have the y8 just focus on building it and not worrying about mini me swaps which is any non vtec bottom end d series block with either a y8 or z6 head installed on it.
that being said let me tell you know that if you plan to swap or boost in the future then you shouldnt waste the money on bolts ons you should either set it back for the boost or swap or start to build it for boost. If you dont want to do either of those or its a super long time away then i can suggest some things since i have a NA d16y8. check out my build thread link is in my signature.
You said you already have header and exhaust. which ones just curious other than that you can
get a high flow cat/test pipe, either cai or sri intake, b series tbody which is 60mm compared to the d series 55, Skunk2 intake manifold, if you do this while you already have the intake manifold off before you install the skunk2 one get your self a hondata thermal im gasket its worth the money IMO.
are you already running ngk blues and ngk iv plugs? if not get them
you can upgrade the ignition coil to either the accel super ignition coil which is direct fit, or an external coil if you want to go that route research msd blaster coils
Aem makes very good underdrive pulleys which i also have to replace the ps and alternator pulleys

After you have done or researched everything i said above then you can get into the internals of the motor
if you go with a stage 1 cam you can keep the valvetrain stock stage 2 or higher and the valvetrain must be upgraded
just do some research on d series internal builds and decide if you want to do it and if you do what you want to go with depends on your budget and future goals

thanks guys sry for the super late reply. yeah ive just decided to go with a swap. nevyno4 i read that thread like a week ago lol thanks. took me a while to really make up my mind. but right now it being close to tax season i figured i just get her slammed and clean as hell. it was either that or spend all of half of my tax money on a b serires or h series. so ill get her clean , but thanks again guys
