97 civic cx looking for a longer geared transmission

hey i have a 1997 civic cx hatch with a d16y7 stock transmission and im looking for a tranny that has longer gears, i mostly do highway driving and i would like to not be riding 110km at 3000rpm, is there any other transmissions that would fit that i could ride at a lower rpm, at this point in time i don't care so much for the loss in power just the fuel efficiency

if anybody could give me any advice that would be most appreciated=)

Not that I know of, but in general most of the people that get huge mpg numbers drive slow to do it. Below 55mph 88kph. You have to think of it this way, if you rode a bicycle down the street in no wind you would do it a hell of a lot more easy then if you made the same ride in a 100kph head wind. The harder you have to work, the more fuel/energy you are going to burn.

understandable but where i live i have to drive on the highway to get anywhere and i was just looking for a transmission that would allow me to do so at a lower rpm, i was just curious if that was possible, thanks for the input though=)

I think the cx transmission is the longest d16 transmission you can get without getting custom gears made. You can look up syncrotech and they sell fully rebuilt trannys with a core charge, other than that good luck trying to find a specific transmission at a junk yard or on craigslist

You could try stuffing some 17's on the car. It might help a tad if the wheel tire combo is bigger than that of the stock setup. If it was bigger to the point you changed the ratio, even then you really wouldn't see the change in mpg going off the cluster w/o calibrating the speedo.
