What causes my temp to stay in the middle of the gauge, ever since I got the car I'm a little bit scared to drive it since I don't want to over heat the car and risking more problems.. and another thing, my car just started doing this, but every so often the car struggles to start but when it does, it has a very low idle, let's say about 250 then sometimes when I hit the gas it struggles, like the exhaust valves aren't opening, seems to happen the sametime everyday, like tonight I just lost all power when I hit the gas then it all of a sudden I got power back and it's running perfectly fine now.. does that sound like the fuel pump

Its a 97 civic ex
D16y8
446k miles all original

Purchase a Haynes manual for your car and perform all the routine maintenance procedures. Could be cooling issues, ignition, needs valve lash adjusted, anything. Begin learning to trouble shoot symptoms and you will learn new skills in diagnosing vehicle behaviors.

Will do that, I have had a lot of civics and nothing mechanically as bad as this one, but that's what I'm thinking I should just go down the line and replace parts that should be replaced a long time ago

Pull your throtle body off and clean it out good with some carb and choke cleaner and then test your throttle position sensor and see if its still operating in range. After that do a basic engine compression test. If there is more than a 5 percent difference in compression between adjacent cylinders that will cause an erratic idle and performance issues.

Your temperature only looks slightly higher than average. If it's a big concern, flush your radiator, replace your thermostat, and replace radiator hoses. It shouldn't cause you any issues so long as you don't have a leak anywhere.

In the future please follow this rule:

Thread Makers: Thread titles must summarize the technical question or problem...

You have been here long enough to know this is one of the things we ask. It helps everyone, including the ones making the threads. Only takes a couple seconds more to put some thought into the title to clarify for people trying to help.

Thank you.

Alright lethal I will do that, and I just think it's time to replace stuff on the car, and what's odd is it cuts out after its warm, like when the car is cold it's perfectly fine, but after driving it and then turning the car off is when it's hard to start again. And I knoe Tokyo that it's not normal, I do look at the temp gauge a lot tho

Alright guys will be getting 1200 back on my taxes and was wondering should I rebuild the d16y8 or just have some fun with the money and buy some rims and s**t like that lol, but obviously replace parts that need to be replaced also along the way.
