97 EX keyless entry?

I just got the car, never thought much of it, but lock/unlock functions don't cause the corner lights to blink, just the dome light. My friend's 99 has the same stock keyless entry and his lights work with his stock system. The panic button is worthless as well. Is there a reason for this or did the Civics come with a crap keyless entry as well?

If I install an aftermarket alarm/keyless entry, can I remove the stock stereo without interference? Or will the dome lights still not work? Any manufacturers make an alarm to work WITH the 96-00 Civic's issue?

The alarm and radio are completely independent once you go aftermarket. The dome will be able to function if your installer who does your radio is aware of the issue in this year civic. There are two wires in the security harness in the radio cavity that need to be jumped. There is a DIY link on here to jump the wires, but the dash kit has a tech note as well, so whoever does the radio can handle it.

I'll be doing the radio myself, but if the aftermarket alarm/keyless entry isn't going to need the stock radio in the car, I'm tossing that! Thanks for the info!
