so crutchfield says my front speakers are 6.5"

I'm away from my car so I have no way of measuring them,

but as I did more searching on google I have found people have used this size as was recommended to them and come to find out the stock speakers are smaller than 6.5"

so does anyone know (without searching it on crutchfield) what the stock speaker size is for the front doors on a 97 sedan?

thank you

yeah, it is the right size but not really, its actually 6.25 or something, dont worry though, when i got new 6.5 in speakers i just ran mettal sheet screws into the plast surround. works fine and is SUPER solid. the rear speakers are exactly what ever size they say, those just drop in, but the front ones you need to get a little creative with the hardware

Fronts are 6.5" and rears are 6x9". I replaced my fronts with 6.5" and had no problems.

When I replaced my front speakers on my 96 HB, I was told that only 6.5" Pioneers will match the 3 factory screw holes. I tried fitting 6.5 Rockfords and 6.5 Kenwoods with no luck. Seems like they where too big. So I settled with Pioneers. Bolted up with no modifications.

My pioneer just fit right in there to. Pioneer is the way to go for car speakers in my opinion.

apparently the "size" is 6.5 but usually only 6"s will work but SOME 6.5's will work *scratches head*

found some 6" that say they are the Japanese car version of 6.5s so I ordered those

I was just going to make a spacer and make these 6.5s work but they stuck out so much and the form of the plating is grooved so without fiberglassing it would be impossible to match the curves and if it was raining and I opened my door water would go right into the cones of the speakers so that wouldn't work out too well..

Note: JL Audio describes this model as a 6" speaker size; however, most manufacturers designate this same frame size as a 6-1/2" speaker. To clarify and simplify comparison's to other products, we list it in both the 6" and 6-1/2" categories of speakers, and refer to it as a 6-1/2". It is a perfect fit for many Japanese vehicles that will only accept a true 6" speaker without modification and not a standard 6-1/2" or 6-3/4" speaker. The basket features three and four-hole patterns that match up with all factory mounting locations.

Not a big issue if the new speaker holes don't line up exactly. You can easily make or buy some MDF spacers. Drill into the spacer. Mount the new speaker to the spacer. Then mount the spacer to the factory holes.
