I just got my first car (98 civic ex coupe) and it's totally stock. I wanna mod it some but not sure where to start. Definitely want louder and some good looks. Ideas?

Check out our member's rides and build section to see what others have done. See if you see anything you like.

Few things I'll add:
- For power, you'll need to turbo charge, super charge, get nitrous, or get a better swap. Strictly speaking power, D-Series engines are useless N/A.
- If you want louder, don't get an eBay muffler or cut a hole in your piping or gut your cat. You'll hurt performance and it'll sound horrible. eBay exhaust systems are absolute garbage and you'll get laughed at. Greddy, Buddy Club, Magnaflow, Apexi....etc...all are good companies that make quality exhausts.
- One last thing....regarding eBay parts. You get what you pay for. If you buy a generic non-brand name part off eBay, and it doesn't fit, breaks the next day, doesn't work properly, etc., don't be disappointed.

Alright thanks. I'll check out the members section today and look to see what's good. I know eBay is pretty unreliable and was planning on possibly an OBX for exhaust system. And I'll look into turbo, super charger, etc. Thanks again for the tips.

Are you in a rush? Take your time is what i'm trying to say. Louder? what do you mean louder? like louder music or louder exhaust noise? louder engine noise?

I had the twin loop obx exhaust which is a mugen replica. I also had a magnaflow hi flocat and a resonator an it sounded great, quiet as i like. I think without the resonator it would be loud. Its a decent brand though. If you're on a budget keep them in consideration

Hmm you should get familiar with the car and get familiar with the mods and get familiar with engines. Read searches, read forums. Learn. You'll be glad you did lol.

There's many things you can do. For instance: b/h/k/j series swap. Minime swap (d16y7 block with your head), Light flywheel, racing clutch, intake (whale penis intake is Krazyyy!!). Straight Pipe. Headers.

Vacuum & steam shampoo the interior, it's like sleeping in somebody else's bed with their dirty sheets if you don't.
For the engine bay, I used wd40 and an old but clean rag to clean the walls and parts, be careful not to spray directly into the intake, alternator, distributor, it makes a huge difference, cleans well.

Do any repairs before you do any modifications. If anything is wrong with it, tackle it now.

Intake/Headers/Exhaust
Intake: you can go Ebay and get ebay piping/short ram. Don't get cold air intake. Or just get a K&N drop in filter for your stock airbox
Headers: don't go ebay, Ebay headers tend to be cheap and crack quickly.
Exhaust: You got to keep in mind you will be driving this car, not passing it. When you pass a car on the road and hear its loud you'll be like "hey that sounded nice" but imagine driving with that for hours a day. You could get a Yonaka Cat-back ($200), or the Apexi Ws2 catbacks ($600), but lately i've been looking at some sound-clips from reputable people on Honda-Tech and libertariat recommended his muffler in a recent thread

Ebay parts AESTHETICS/COSMETICS - ebay cosmetics though are a good affordable route since they don't affect how the vehicle runs it's okay to go ebay.
Lips - I'd recommend a 96-98 (has to be 96-98 or it wont fit) CTR replica front lip (polyurethane/PU), OEM replica rear lip (polyurethane/PU) (96-98 coupe/sedan specifically, 3dr/hatch rear lips wont ft) or mudguards or replica mugen splats/valences
