Okay, I have searched over and over again..Does the radiator support have to be changed for this conversion? Some people say it has to, others say they have done it and they didn't have to.. I need a definate on this!! Is the radiator support a bolt-on affair or is it a weld-on? Thanks ahead of time.

I wouldnt think it would be a biggie to get it. I have known people who did this conversion that didnt use the 99-00 support and theres came out fine.

I have a 97 civic and thought about doing the swap but engine is going to come first!

99-00 conversion

Yes, that is correct. A lot of people do this now...the 99-00 front end is a popular swap now days...I'll stick with my 96-98 front end. You basically have to buy the whole front end of the car. (Bumper, headlights, fenders, hood) there's probably something else in there that I'm forgetting. Oh well.

You are correct... the only other thing you need for the conversion is a radiator support.

conversion

I have a 97 civic ex coupe and I converted front and back to a SI. For the front, it's just bolt on. Replace the 96-98 civic fenders, hood, front bumper, and headlights with the 99-00 fenders, hood, front bumper, and headlights. It's simple. For hatchbacks, it's also the same (my buddy w/the hatch did his the same way).

okay, now I have people that say they have done it without the support, and people that say I need it..Now what?? I also hear that the support is a weld on affair, not a bolt on one..

i am in the process of doing the 99-00 conversion, and i can't see why you would need to swap the supports. actually, i'm not really sure what support you mean...the bolt on piece the holds the top of the rad, or where it is held at the bottom. either way, i can't see why it would be a problem- your just swapping body parts and headlights. from what i can tell now, mine should be fine the way it is. but then again, i am doing the swap with a 99-00 wings west body kit (so the front bumper eliminates the 2 10mm bolts that hold the bottom of the factory bumper to the chassis), and i am also going to keep my origonal hood......just thought you'd appreciate the info

The support we are speaking of is the whole front end of the car! From fender to fender, and holds everything in between! I found out today that it is not a bolt-on deal, the original must be cut off and the new one welded in, IF the support has to be changed, I will not do the conversion! Its not worth it

i knew the whole front end was one piece, thats why i was confused...anyway, i agree with you- if you have to cut off your front end, and weld a 99-00 one on, it is definitely not worth it (unless you wrecked the car, and it was all damaged anyway...i can see that). but back to the conversion. i am defintely going through with mine. as far as i can tell, it should work ok. you might have to lengthen a few bolt holes or something of that nature. a little custom fabrication may be required, but if thats all it takes, i do it if i were you. it also depends if you can get the parts fairly cheap. if you have to spend loads of money, that probably isn't worth it either

Well, here is my weird situation, I have a 96, I just bought the car 1 month ago, to make a custom ride for this show season! My hood is dented, the front bumper is mangled, the fenders have dents in them and one of the headlights is glazed over..So I HAVE to buy ALL the parts anyway, I will just buy them for the 99-00 year, and HOPE for a bolt on affair! Minor fabrications are not a problem, I had a 2002 S-10 w/ a 2000 Envoy front clip on it, BUT me and my body man discussed it today, and looked he car over radiator support would be the only thing stopping me from ordering parts today! I hope with a body kit up front it will wrok out for me, as long as the fenders and the hood and headlights line up properly, I wont see a problem!!

yeah i think you'll be fine. if you need all the stuff anyway, i'd do it for sure. especially if you have the body kit. i think that is really the only area in question. i am almost certain the headlights and fenders and hood will fit fine, especially if they are oem. if the front bumper is off some, perhaps you could custom fab it. if your body kit front end is fiberglass it should be no problem (i hear fiberglass usually take a bit of work to fit anyway). if its urathane, you'll probably still get it without much hassle. good luck with all the work!
