ive got a 100% stock 99 ex. drove around this morning and about 15-20mins into the ride i started to hear what sounded liike a fan out of place knocking on the engine everytime i slightly punched it or even barely pressed the accelerator. then i started to notice loss of power as i tried to go up a hill to get back home, barely made it up a 35 degree incline in 2nd.. wtf , oh and also it died on me several times when i put it into nuetrAL even if the car was rolling 35mph++. And it doesnt have any trouble starting up cold/hot engine. no loss of oil i dont think. any ideas ?? help! thanks. also have a d16y8

did you pop open the hood and try to localize the knock?
a fan blade hitting some plastic is not going to make you loose power.
try more like a con rod knocking the block.

i was only using this quote "sounded liike a fan out of place knocking on the engine" to simulate the noise as best as i could. but i did an found the noise coming from around the right side of the engine(looking at it) basically under the valve cover. an when i meant losing power i mean like after about 3000 or 3500 rpm it wouldnt really pull at all. and by then knocking was overwhelming so i just had to get it towed home

i would take a pipe or bar about 3 feet in length, put one side on the block and with the other end with your fist over the other end put your ear on your fist. you will be able to hear the knocking.
seems to me you got internal engine problems and looks like you will need to drop the pan and remove the head.
