a little audio advice please...

ok guys, here's the deal. a guy i know is selling his old system, and i am thinkin of maybe buying some of it.

2 10" Pioneer subs in a box (sealed enclosure)
Jenson 720w amp

he is said he'd sell it for 150 to me. i know pretty much nothing about audio... but i have been wanting a little more thump in my music for a bit. the only thing i am not liking is how heavy the enclosure is... i hate thinking that im gonna have all that extra weight to lug around all the time. oh well, cant get around that if i plan on having a system i guess.

does anyone have any info/experience on the subs and amp? they good, decent, s**t? im guessin they're not crap, b/c the guy is a stickler for his audio (or was anyways, since he's selling his s**t). just want people's thoughts. I am waiting to hear back from him on exactly what model subs they are... i will update once i find out.

on a slightly similar note... what sort of sound differences are there between 2 10's and one 12? i had always kinda thought about getting just 1 12 for my car, to kinda keep the weight down (its a civic, it needs all the help it can get, lol) i think i remember hearing that they have a different sound, but i dont know. any advice is appreciated.

I'm no expert , but I do have a idea on what is good. Since I don't even know what model subs the pioneers are... I'm just gonna say it sounds like a decent setup. I can tell you that thats about right for how much he's asking. Also , you have to put into consideration that it'll be more than what you had before added to your already existing system. Just my two cents.

P.S. - Even tho 12's usually put out more sound than 10's... two 10's are about the same equivilant as one 12. ( Depending on brand , model , output , etc. ) 10's usually have better clarity than 12's tho. If you wanna save weight all together , I'd just get one 10. You'll still have enough bass and if your worried that much about adding weight , then that's what I would recommend.

its a decent deal but try and talk him down a little bit. Also try and make sure the subs arent blown.

find out what model the pioneers are, pioneer makes great audio equipment for the most part, so youre probably looking at a good deal. 2 subs in a box with a 720 watt amp should beat pretty hard, but first find out more specifics (2 or 4 channel, model # for subs, etc) and let us know

ok. first off, i knwo the subs are not blown. i have heard them in his car before he reomved them. the thing is, he also had a whole shitload of other audio stuff.. so i couldnt differenciate between the subs and everything else goin on... and i want previously listening with intent to buy.

i will try to get the model numbers tomorrow from him. this may have to wait a little bit tho.. need new tires, and there is a possibility of a new car in the works... but thats a different story.

I wouldnt get it. They sell Jenson at walmart..sheesh. Subs are blown? I would take my $150 and spend it elsewhere.

Id rather shop around and look for better stuff. Is that your budget? $150? Try searching ebay for fun..that way you can get alot of buying ideas on what to get.

well, i dont really have a budget for this. the only reason i am bringing it up is because he mentined he is selling it. i have already told him that if someone else is interested not to hold it back for me. im not all into it right away... and he knows that.

thanks for the advice. i may hold out and get some more high(er) end stuff down the road. we'll see how things go.
